I went to the Kroger supermarket today and admired the flowers for sale. Then I went to a small pond near the velodrome to see what was there.

Flower for sale at Kroger supermarket. Yellow petals, rounded at the end, ending in dark red in the center, with some green petals surrounding a dark red center. Some kind of black eyed Susan?

Male blue dasher dragonfly perched on a stem. It has a powder blue abdomen with a dark tip, big green eyed and a striped thorax. Its wings are spread, partially obscuring it's thorax and head.

For : This is a hard carved, hand printed Lino block print with collaged Japanese washi papers of a clump of black-eyed susans (Rudbeckia hirta) with a cone flower (Echinacea) & a monarch butterfly. These beautiful wildflowers are garden favourites popular with the pollinators.

Plant native species- they are easy to grow & support native pollinators!

It's getting hotter, so despite the wildfire smoke in the air, the bees and other insects are showing up, as are some flowers. Names in each description.

A black bee with yellow legs (a spurred ceratina) gets nectar from a yellow daisy-like flower with a raised dark red center (a black eyed Susan).
A small dragonfly with a dusky blue, black tipped abdomen, big green eyes and black lacy wings, perches on a tiny twig of an aquatic plant (male blue dasher dragonfly).
2 types of milkweed. On the left, common milkweed with is pale pink with a darker center and big leaves. On the right, butterfly milkweed, with it's bright orange flowers and thin leaves.
