Back in May last year, the European Commission proposed what security maven Matthew Green described as “the most terrifying thing I’ve ever seen”—a law that would force everyone from Facebook to Signal to scan everyone’s messages not only for known child sexual abuse material (CSAM), but also for previously-unknown CSAM images, and also signs of someone apparently “grooming” a child for abuse. Other potentially privacy-threatening things were in there, like widespread mandatory age verification." https://fortune.com/2023/10/26/eu-chat-control-csam-encryption-privacy-european-commission-parliament-johansson-breyer-zarzalejos-ernst/
The #EU has been making a lot of bad decisions recently (#eIDAS#ChatControl, #CyberResilienceAct and others...) in particular when it comes to the open source community.
I've been working in the institutions for two years and am considering launching a wiki to explain how to better influence EU decision making, would this interest anyone?
EDIT: I somehow managed to make the poll 5 minutes, sorry!
We noticed populist right-wing forces co-opting "open-source" by "supporting its adoption".
However, they stand for isolationism (hidden behind "tech sovereignty"), and against international collaboration, openness and transparency; which are what makes #FreeSoftware awesome.
@noybeu files a GDPR complaint against X (Twitter) over illegally micro-targeting #ChatControl ads on behalf of the EU Commission
The platform unlawfully used the political views and religious beliefs of its users to determine whether they should see an ad campaign from the EU Commission.
