I confess I used to believe the existence of the Necronomicon book because of the strong and convincing allegations of many people, especially religious fanatics who never read Lovecraft's works in their lives.

Made a little rose pixel art after work to relax. I used 6 colours for it and made in asperite.

In Greek myth when Aphrodite found Adonis’s injured body her tears mixed with his blood. When it touched the earth a rose bloomed, red as blood.

In Norse #mythology, #Thor is the god associated with storms, lightning, and thunder. Similarly, in Roman mythology, #Jupiter assumed a comparable position as the god of the sky and thunder. #Thursday was attributed to Jupiter, a tradition adopted by Germanic peoples as well. Additionally, ancient Albanians also adhered to this cultural practice of linking Thursday to the deity of fire.

Always interesting when someone's justification for not liking Thing = 'It deviates from Canon' when 'canon' is myth & Folkore

Especially Vampires 'cause 'canon' definitely isn't what the majority think

My interest is (as a hobbyist scholar of) Vampires & other imaginary creatures that use blood and/or souls as sustenance

Example: Sherlock Holmes Deerstalker Hat

What people really object to is "This new thing deviates from MY first exposure to the Thing!"

Zeus (Jupiter if you're Roman) isn't just the god of lightning! He's more like the god of the sky—but even that's misleading.

Some say he's exactly that feeling you get when you climb to the highest point, and look out on the land.

The sky is what orders the world, the good king orders the country, the good father orders the family, and consciousness orders the mind.

What all those things point to, THAT's Zeus.

Scientists discover 240-million-year-old dinosaur that looks like a ‘mythical Chinese dragon’

I've said it before, mythological creatures that have been part of our cultures since the ancient times, have some real-life basis.

@curiousordinary @Godyssey @TarkabarkaHolgy @FairytalesFood @starrytimepod @wihtlore @bevanthomas @mythologymonday @juergen_hubert @GaymerGeek @FinnFolklorist @Lemniscata My first thought is the Turkish Delight in the #Narnia books (I forget which one), which the White Witch used to entice Edmund to tell her important secrets. It was enchanted to be addictive, making whoever ate it want more and more, thereby making them easy to control. Does that count as a #myth? 😀

Jordan's ret-con: how about we just use one of existing myths that are already way better?! (Check out: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pleiades_in_folklore_and_literature)

Secret Keeper

The Secret Keeper is always in hiding, function as form: to keep its secret, it must draw the Seeker, and then withdraw in turn. It must become a Secret keeping itself.

Not my favorite recent piece… I have one I like better in black ink. I’ll post that one in a couple days.

#Celtic #Mythology: At Mac #Dathó feast #Cet of the #Connacht men withdrew his claim to the hero's portion of the meat saying, If my brother, #Anlúan, was here, you would not be getting the #curadmir, for he is the better warrior. #Conall Cernach from #Ulster replied, `But he is here!” and pulled Anlúan’s head from his belt and threw it at Cet so hard, he was splattered with his brother’s blood.

#Celtic #MythologyMonday: „In the Táin Bó Cuailnge, Conall Cernach, like Cernunnos, is an ancestor deity of the Irish. Conall sets out to rescue Fraech's wife, sons and cattle who have been carried off by a fierce and terrible tribe. Conall meets a crone who tells him to speak to a herdswoman because she cannot help them. The herdswoman, a diviner, tells Conall that she has heard that he is the chosen one who will save Fraech's family and kill the awful serpent that guards them. Conall attacks the fort of the serpent and the serpent slides into his belt without a struggle.“

#MythologyMonday: „The detail of the serpent in Conall's belt recalls the belt of the Vegetation Year God in Neolithic culture, and the image of Conall controlling or having the serpent encircle his waist recalls a recurrent image in #Celtic #mythology. The relationship between the great horned-god of the #Celts and the serpent symbolizes the control Cernunnos has of the underworld powers. He is the path-maker and protector for the people.“
