Almost a year exclusively using GrapheneOS for mobile and (many years before that) GNU/Linux for all my computing.

How quickly one gets spoiled. Found myself obliged over the past few days to help relatives use Windows and iOS. It was deeply shocking.

Windows on newish hardware is so slow that I didn't think it was responding. To say nothing of the privacy and usability nightmare.

And the Apple ratchet has tightened down a few more clicks in a year. A very high quality third party app that I bought years ago now appears in a new version "with in-app purchases," and the splash screen requires me to sign in via Google or Facebook. Perfectly ghastly.

Feeling tempted to install GrapheneOS on my Pixel 7a, but am afraid I'll screw something up as a semi-technical person and will lose my warranty etc. Can I bring back Android ROM in case something goes wrong... ?

Hey bubble,

my wife needs to work with the instagram app for work (yes, I know, but it is that way). So we installed it in a work profile on her android phone (to keep the data in the normal profile safe from the app). The phone is running perfectly fine.

Unfortunately, she cannot access the pictures on the normal profile from the instagram app. File shuttle is enabled in shelter and works in the files app, but apparently not from the instagram app. At least we find no way to access the files.

Has anyone done this before? Any hints, tips or tricks?

Great. After a couple of years of using the Starling Bank app with @GrapheneOS with zero issues, I received a warning today that "your device hasn't passed our security checks"

13 days to factory restore to stock Android, apparently, or I won't be able to use the app on this device.

Anyone else have this issue? I haven't ever been able to use Google Wallet with bank cards on but that hasn't been a problem.

[] I was looking for a way to sandbox a proprietary app on Android/LineageOS, and prevent it from running when I'm not actively using it. I found this one: Shelter https://f-droid.org/en/packages/net.typeblog.shelter/ It abuses Work Profiles to stash the designated apps and run them only when desired. Nice when is not an option

For any @GrapheneOS users trying to get the new app working: you need to go into the app’s settings, and tap on ‘0 verified links’ (which doesn’t have these checkboxes, it just looks greyed-out and unclickable), and then check all the boxes, and then it works!

Any nerds know if this is a Santander, or issue? Lots of apps self-register as link handlers so I’m tempted to assume Santander, but also the grey ‘0 verified links’ thing being tappable is very confusing UI!

I'm reusing my Pixel 7 with Graphene OS using a secondary SIM.
It's truly excellent work; it works wonderfully, and the phone is noticeably more responsive compared to Google's Android.
I suggest everyone with a compatible Pixel device to give it a try; I don't think you'll go back.

I've tried out GrapheneOS on my Pixel 8 and I like it. The installation was flawlessly althought I was a little bit scared of destroying something 😅

My initial impression: Very minimalistic from the beginning, it feels like the first time after an Arch installation 😄, the Sandboxed Google Play feature works very good, only the AOSP apps should be renewed in the future or replaced with more modern alternatives

I hope that Graphene will going on with this great work

Just one more reason not to give your cellular provider your real information. I've had good luck with US Mobile over the past ~6 months with alias information. Good prices and network coverage. Works well on GrapheneOS.

does anyone else have an issue with @AntennaPod
on @GrapheneOS (Pixel 6a)? AP is constantly stopping (crashing?) after some time (once it's 30 minutes, once it's 5 minutes). It doesn't matter what podcast this is, playback speed, I have no other idea (maybe I've got too long queue? ~350 episodes, 14 GB in total)

Anyone else experiencing issues with #davx5 on #grapheneos lately? I am syncing with a nextcloud and have some errors every day. Something regarding "local transaction failed", buffer space etc.
Other devices syncing from the same network against the same nextcloud seem fine...
