The Endorphins

A group consisting mostly of women, who call themselves "The Endorphins", gather for a sunrise swim in the chilly waters of Lake Ontario during freezing temperatures in Toronto, Canada.

I'm down at the lake, and I'm surrounded by a flock of geese gently nibbling on algae on the rocks below me. Some are doing their pre-flight preening, while a couple have swum further off to await takeoff. They are mostly Canada Geese, but there are a couple of stubbier Cackling Geese mixed in.

It was a peaceful scene until a pair of swans showed up. The male swan is being aggressive towards the geese. Far off, long-tailed ducks make their special calls

A fine morning spent nurdle hunting in Marie Curtis Park. Nurdles are lentil-sized plastic pellets that are used in manufacturing. They are regularly shipped back and forth across the Great Lakes and some end up in the water (then inside fish and birds). A Greener Future is organizing volunteers to help clean them and other plastic debris from some of the beaches along the north shore of Lake Ontario.
https://www.agreenerfuture.ca/

A small yellow plastic pellet sits on the sand next to a thin stick.
Large tweezers hold a shard of blue plastic, ready to drop it into a bucket of other plastic bits and assorted litter which sits on the sand of the beach.
Tweezers hold a plale plastic pellet, also called a nurdle.

Grydon Smith, Ontario's Ministry of Natural Resources hired sanitation co., GFL to clean up the runoff of last week’s chemical fire. Unfortunately, the company could not stem the chemical runoff effectively and it breached the creeks and is pouring into Lake Ontario.
MPP Smith also pushed through which stripped Conservation authorities of power.

Herein is proof that two old dogs can do a 10k midday hike along the Lake Ontario shore!

I also learned not to let a dog tell you that hole in the fence is the best walkies…

Also, when a helpful stranger tells you the climb up at the other end is easy, remember to consider they may have come to Canada from the Andes.
