After using TablePlus for around 3 years, is this still a good app to use? Are there newer better alternatives.

It’s renewal time and I’d like to check-in on other apps before upgrading.

Feedback welcome.

@outofcontrol I've been using DBeaver for quite some time now with half a dozen different database types and I'm pretty happy with it. I only work with Windows and Linux though. https://dbeaver.io

PHPStorm diagrams are a big finicky and it has issues with a lot of tables and organizing things. does a great job with the diagrams and keeps linked tables close together, as well as highlights the columns in each table when you click on a connecting line.

Going to give DBeaver a run for a bit.

My old man trait is that I think SQL is easier to read and work with than arel, active record et al. Unless you're making libraries, just write the damn query.

Thanks to @jemal I learned that MariaDB is not actually officially supported by Ghost: https://forum.ghost.org/t/when-will-mysql-8-be-mandated-which-ver/29228/2

So if you made the same stupid choice as me, look into switching before it becomes an issue.

Migrated to MySQL ✅ Did not had any issues, and it will prevent any eventual problems in the future. Thanks again @jemal for reading documentation for me 🤣

Does anyone have tips for installing alongside and existing server in 22.04? I am using a bunch of MariaDB exclusive field types and functions for geosearches, but would also like to try out Ghost which requires MySQL.

alyx,
@alyx@3615.computer avatar

@jemal Here's the docker run commands
(Sorry I made a mistake in the previous one)

https://gist.alyx.pink/?fab92fbe60493a9b#Erh39rSc69kygXF6ibXkJ6qG9BKLZ91cL1WUPPmRgpRY

And I'm doing the docker-compose right now :)

alyx,
@alyx@3615.computer avatar

@jemal And boom the second one with "docker compose” https://gist.alyx.pink/?4685c6c4673aa41b#D9pC56HYnuvGM6Koc8iq7B35ikfHysVEWbm9nUpREVVX

Let me know if you have any issues, I'm really happy to help ❤️ And if you don't want to run any of that, no worries, it's totally ok it just took some time from me and it was fun to do hehe

Klar, Postgres ginge auch, ist aber kein drop-in replacement. 🤔

Honestly, there was a time where MariaDB was relevant, and that was when PostgreSQL was weird, MS SQL was costly, and MySQL was on the verge of being proprietary.

Today, MS SQL has low entrance barriers, MySQL still works, and PostgreSQL is versatile and rock solid.

What does MariaDB offers that other don’t?
