Info on historical collectors & other collection agents affiliated with the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin was transferred from local wikis to @wikidata to help #accessibility & #reusability of #data, for example, as a resource for transdisciplinary #provenance#research.
André Simonazzi's (@gov) clear public communication of what is and, above all, what is not, was of great value for the work of the #OpenData community in 2020+. As it has been for all those who have built on this work.
Is there like an open-data peer to peer weather sensor network and an app that I can hook up to it to get local weather conditions? And if not, why the heck not? #weather#opendata#peertopeer#fediverse
I Talk to the Treeeeessss… with a ChatGPT API Call
I've learned enough since last October that I can revisit my project of having Raleigh's trees act as tour guides for surrounding areas. The city of Raleigh offers an open dataset of city trees. Not every last tree in the city, of course, mostly trees on city property. My old program searched the tree database, used Wikipedia to find sites of interest nearby, and then…
Several months ago I connected the #Raleigh#OpenData tree set to nearby #Wikipedia -listed locations and from there to a ChatGPT API call. Find trees in Raleigh, find things near trees, have trees tell you about nearby things.
I've learned enough in the time since that I'm readdressing the project and expanding it a lot, with more information available to/from the tree.
Got multiple 500 Internal Server Error responses when trying to download scientific data files from the Harvard Dataverse today... but funnily enough the totally unasked-for (and totally useless) #AI summary of their contents works fine every time :/
Does anyone know of a paper or dataset that compiles the earliest known dates of agriculture in a given region? Globally, ideally, but I'd settle for a continent or two...
(I know there are several options for the European Neolithic, but beyond that?)
@ldodds@tarkowski do you have a good sense of why European Data Spaces never get mentioned in open data circles? Am I just in the wrong watering holes or what?
"- as a primarily (AIUI) B2B data sharing solution its not relevant to the goals of many in the open data community (open science, transparency, open govt, etc)"
this actually creates an opportunity to push for #opendata approaches to commercial / business data. @timdavies reminded me a while ago that open data initially was meant to also cover business data, but overtime focused on just public data.
