#AI #Government #PublicAdministration #PublicSector: "The public should have opportunities to offer input into what technologies are introduced in public administration, since they interface with these agencies and could be adversely impacted by the AI systems they deploy. Ultimately, it’s an issue of trust: If the public can’t trust their democratically elected governments to know their rights — and these technological intermediaries are representative of those governments — it is unlikely they will trust those same institutions to protect their rights.

With governments on pace to adopt more technology, it’s imperative that any new tools are thoroughly evaluated and tested before they are released into the world. AI has the potential to dramatically improve many government processes and could help the cities provide better services. But if technologies are poorly designed, without attention to how they are integrated into society, they could change power relations and how people relate to their governments. In this case, the more likely outcome is the further erosion of trust in public institutions — and undermining the very laws and rules the city is responsible for clarifying and protecting." https://thehill.com/opinion/technology/4624114-ai-chatbot-government-public-sector-silicon-valley-new-york-city/

I am both intrigued and frustrated by today's reading recommendation by Dr. Susanne Thiessen via the IPAC newsletter. As a newcomer to Canada and also to the / discipline, I'd like to know more about specific instances where people have worked "in a good way" with Indigenous (First Nations, Metis, and/or Inuit) communities and compare them to times where they have not and what people can do to repair those relationships.

how rotten does your heart have to be in order to leave the public sector in a good job with great protections and retirement in order to go to waymo

kkarhan,

@bnys maybe paid better in a week that in a year?

I mean that's why I know almost noone in working in :

One would get bossed around by and have neother good promotion options beyond maybe a paygrade every 5 years and neither get bonuses not stock options for enduring shitty cubicles in buildings that are ugly inside and out...

fnf, to fediverse

The European Data Protection Supervisor (@EDPS) Wojciech Wiewiórowski (@EDPS_supervisor) right now giving a brief input on “Fediverse for Public Administration. Why we try and why we fail”.

Responding to a (too) short definition of the Fediverse as an antidote to big-tech social media platforms, he stated:

“I have nothing against big. I have nothing against American. I have nothing against platforms. I have something against being dependent.”

A recording of the talk will be published on his office's PeerTube instance (@edps / @edps_tv).

fnf, to Bulgaria

starts off tonight with a hot issue: European Data Protection (@EDPS) Supervisor (@EDPS_supervisor) Wojciech Wiewiórowski will give a brief input on

:win3_computer: “Fediverse for Public Administration. Why we try and why we fail” followed by a fishbowl discussion.
