Totally hooked on Professor @aquigley at today - it's all about and - and about - and how they can be used for secondary purposes to those originally designed - and at the end of the day we are all - and this limits the attention we have for input.

Super interesting!

I love by @ia, but I think the documentation for creating custom themes could be improved. So I went ahead and did just that, hoping that it'll help someone to get started:

Disclaimer: Most of the words and all images in this article belong to iA, I rearranged the order of appearance and changed some words.

Needing the Mac version of Keynote to re-set a fricking video thumbnail is annoying....

Especially when you discover that after you've finished the presentation. I don't want to remake it in Powerpoint just for that one bit of cleanup.

Software with different features on different platforms make it super clear right off that some stuff isn't available.

If for MacOS has more options than Keynote for iPad, iPhone or iCloud, you should be able to easily understand how different it is without having to dig through Apple support forums to implicitly discover.

I don't mind that it's different, just make it easy to figure out what's different so I'm not wasting time looking for a feature that doesn't exist on my version.

Even though the documentation is a bit hard to navigate (no links), all you need to know can be found here: https://ia.net/presenter/support/visuals/themes

Also when doing your CSS changes, you'll have to restart the app to see your changes. At least I had to 🤷‍♂️

Very long-shot request here... but does anyone have an original VHS rip of the Seybold New York keynote by Steve Jobs? The MP4 available on archive.org has some nightmarish codec issues, and the only version on YT is 144p.

Even if it's not a first-generation rip, I'm sure we can do better than this 😮

Sorry for all the hashtags here, trying to get a little exposure on this.

Thanks!

This article from @jsnell at @sixcolors is spot on! If you are getting started on a #Mac, especially if you are coming from #Microsoft #Windows, don’t install anything! Chances are it’s built in and you don’t need an app at all! The defaults are what I use for the majority of my workflow and they work exceptionally well! And I agree, the Mac needs a clipboard manager!

@jsnell @sixcolors A couple of my favorite best kept #Mac secret defaults are:
-Don’t install #Adobe, just use #Preview
-No need to install #Microsoft #Office, just use iWork (#Pages, #Numbers, #Keynote)
-#FaceTime can do what most conferencing apps do, no need for #Zoom or #Teams, including scheduling meetings and sharing screens
-The built in #Dictionary app is crazy helpful and useful, especially if you can’t connect to the internet for a quick word lookup.

It also comes with a lot of themes to adapt to your CI, including nostalgic Mac OS 9, Terminal or Windows 95 themes.

All transcription happens on device, no servers involved. Also Subtitlo is free with In-App purchases.
