Alexander Scott landed in Normandy with the Gordon Highlanders, & saw action in the Ardennes & crossing the Rhine. He later became Head of #Scottish#Literature at the University of Glasgow, & was president of ASL from 1976–79

Agreed 100%. HOWEVER, Scotland is a separate country in name only. Until you achieve independence, you'll be lumped in with the rest of us whether you like it or not.
Only the #Scots can change this, which begs the question why they voted to remain in the Union in 2014? Has the reasons for this ever been addressed & resolved, notwithstanding #Brexit?
To be fair, South of the border, no one cares about #ScottishIndependence or a united #Ireland. I think most people wish both would happen so we don't have to hear about it any longer.
It's the ruling class unionists who still hanker for the colonial empire, & keeping Scotland & North Ireland under English rule. It's never been a major issue for the average person in England, hence why I think most would support the #Irish & the #Scots if given the chance.
No I recall it well. I'm yet to come across anyone who gave a toss. Everyone who mentioned it to me were all for #ScottishIndependence. Why wouldn't they be seeing as it'll make little difference to our lives, & will leave you to form & get on with your new lives with Westminster interference.
In fact, most people I know were joking if the #Scots achieved independence, many would emigrate North of the border, & #English cities would become vassal states. 🏴 😂
It's the untangling & the aftermath which needs to be clarified. Unfortunately, the average person in England really wouldn't be arsed.
Most would merely give a shoulder shrug if the #Scots gained independence, as it'll have little material difference on our lives beyond supplies of Irn Bru, & Megan's beer. 🍺
I've never said #Labour were best for #Scotland, as that's for the #Scots to decide. I'm an advocate of #ScottishIndependence, BUT as things stand, I've said & stand by my assertions that currently Labour are best for the #UK as a whole, until otherwise different.
I didn't know Len Pennie's book "Poyums" finally came out, but I've enjoyed her Scots word of the day and her poetry for ages, so it's nice to finally give a bit back.
Of course I had to hear the audiobook as well, because her performances actually make me remember what poetry's supposed to do. (I'd see if you can buy it from a better source than...ahem, this link.)
16 May 1639: The #Irish Privy Council orders all #Scots over 16 years of age living in #Ireland to take an oath abjuring the National Covenant #otd (BL)
