That point is made well in the book "The People's Hospital" I just finished where Americans, including a shit ton of doctors, think people should only get health care if they earn it and are worthy (worthy defined as having money for it). Health care should be a right, but #ThisIsAmerica.
I am in the process of writing the review for the blog. Meanwhile, find the book in a library near you via WorldCat.
So the few times I've been to the US - once to California (which admittedly is different, on vacation rather than work), once to Corpus Christi, once to Arkansas (near Memphis) - I found myself boggling at how much open asphalt there was between stores.
I wondered if it was just because they had the space to expand, so they just did. It didn't occur to me that there were minimum parking rules. It was always very easy to park. Everywhere looked sort of empty/unpopular.
@tldr@sarajw@selzero Even San Antonio did not…oh, never mind. You MUST drive or have transportation to/from the AT&T Center to see the NBA San Antonio Spurs or other events held on the property. Similar in other cities. #YMMV#ThisIsAmerica

It's happened again. Ajike Owens was shot through the closed locked door when she went to ask about an ipad that her neighbor, a 58 year-old white woman named Susan, refused to return.
Susan has not be arrested or charged as the police wonder if "stand your ground" applies.
The local sherif described the neighbors as "in a feud." Ajike's family were taken aback by this and they are very frustrated and hurt.
When Ajike was shot her son was standing right beside her.
