I think these were the butterflies I promised to show @val ? I'm sure there's better video, but overlooking Pomquet Trails, we found these flowers covered in black butterflies?
Now, as mentioned in that fire, this is a fishing community. Look how picturesque it is before sunset?
The Fishing Boats of Marie-Joseph, a short drive from my oceanfront home. I get awesome sunrise photos from my own deck but can't see the #sunsets , if I want to see a nice sunset, I'll come here, or Ecum Secum.. Standby for more.
This one I took should be in a calendar, don't you think?
BTW, there's spots of #Cellular near here, at the park.
I skipped over same day, and took you to the days of #HurricaneFiona , when we spent 14 days without power, never had cellular, probably never will, it's the BUTT end of #Halifax, rather pretty, but most have never been.
Without power, when the roads were cleared of trees, we went to call and let everyone know we were OK (Remember?)
I believe Fancy's Beach gets a Cellular signal.
Check when you go?
Customary on weekends, I take a little time to write a short story, about our adventures.
As a background, in case you are new, here's who we are: 2 seniors, my wife is disabled (I'm crippling up too), defying difficult trails to show that it can be done.
Hashtag shown is relative to places in #NovaScotia, that others might never have seen, but will want to visit.
"When Are You Coming To Visit?"

There's an interesting bypass road, that mostly only the local know about. It skips the loop around leading into the center of Marie-Joseph, and saves a little distance or congestion.
Shown here is Short Cut Road, which re-enters #7 highway, ~ across from "Fancy Point Rd" If you're driving a nice car or truck, PARK near Bakers Cove Rd and hike in. It's a rough ride.
In the 1960s, Highways NS maintained the road, you could drive a Fiero car to the beach. I've broken brake and power steering lines on my truck on this road. At the beach end, the tide crosses the road, fills the lake, and spills back into the ocean when the tide drops> The current nearly pushed my truck off the road. CHECK TIDE TIMES! https://www.tide-forecast.com/locations/Marie-Joseph-Nova-Scotia/tides/latest
THIS IS 3KMS FROM HIGHWAY 7! #Hiking
YOU ARE HERE! You've made it. Whatever method you used, Truck, ATV, Hiking.. you got here.
The view is spectacular, rock berms into the ocean, back into Smith Cove, and to the (now right) the lake called "Fancy's Pond".
Rock berm beach is piled high, and from the ocean, it peaks, and falls back sharply into the Pond, behind the beach.
THIS IS NOT A SANDY BEACH.
Banked Rocks are Melon-sized
It's hard walking on these rocks. Locals use 4x4s or ATVs to ride the peak of the berm.
YES that is my Van nearly buried in the rocks. Long story (we're locals), we've done it many times, but strongly recommend you stop before here, perhaps at one of the two cemeteries you pass, coming in Fancy's Road.
Marie-Joseph community was founded in 1749, and built a church on this road, about same time.
#WARNING: Ticks are plentiful in this area, particularly in the long overgrown old cemetery.
Tuck socks in, use Deet, do detailed tick checks. Deer are the only keepers of the graves now.
Back to the beach
The powerful sea here, full of strong undertow, is always noisy with breakers, and rolling back surf with undertow. It's hard to believe we once swam here in the 1960s as kids? We knew the danger, and found a safe spot.
The massive storm waves, have pushed driftwood and bits of everything to the very top of the rock mountain of beach. (locals use the wood for bonfires)
We continued along the beach to the end, fully exploring side-trails, deer trails, and possible other routes to get here. This is the only way. I've gone to the end, and I've come back from Liscomb area and you can't get here any other way but the road we came in on.
Half-way down, we found a burning area, where beer cans indicate Weekend bonfires and partying by locals. We took their cans with us
I never showed you the Surf yet? It's pretty calm today, you could get sprayed with surf, on a windy day. How do you think all that wood and rock got piled so high? The power of the ocean.
I recommend you PAUSE HERE, for some time.
Seals often come right up to the shore, to watch you, and you can watch them. I'll find you a video later. They don't always like my camera in their face 😉
Going out, with tide dropped, we see the Pond side, and the orange tide mark it left at low tide.
That's how much the pond rises with the tide, and flows back out, across the road. REMEMBER THE TIDE TIMES? You should, if you're planning on returning today.
It's not just rocks on the beach. Watch for Plant Life, surviving harsh conditions
I'm running out of time, I'll add some videos quickly now
I hope you enjoyed my story? It's short, due to time restraints today. If you'd like more detail, I'll add some at a later date.
STOP AND SMELL THE SEA , and watch the surf, talk to the seals, and make it worth your visit.
Take lots of photos #Share and #Boost for other Hikers, and adventure seekers. I've done all of Nova Scotia like this, one adventure at a time. #EasternShore#EasternShoreNS
♫ If I could talk to the animals?
Well, here's your chance. The water is deep where the rocks tumble into the ocean, the seals can get very close with enough depth to bounce around watching, watching them.
As Andy Williams would sing:
The seals watch the girls while the girls watch the seals who watch the girls go by ♪
Eye to eye, they solemnly convene to make the scene..
Another good song, and the beach at Tor Bay Provincial Park.
If you blink, you'd miss this amazing place. No one else here but the birds. @TheSauce #PipingPlovers#Plover#Birds
Not every beach is sandy @TheSauce , but I've seen 100s of them in NS, dozens along the longest highway (#7) in #Halifax. (You'd need a guide.) #TourismNS will never mention these places, or I wouldn't go there.
In NOVA SCOTIA, we don't eat lobster daily. #WAYCTV ◄
