Will be playing a late (for me) Twitch set at 11pm UK time tonight!

It's part of the 45 Day (4th of the 5th) raid train, dedicated to the humble 7"/45 RPM vinyl, with every DJ playing a set entirely on that format. This is hilarious for someone like me who has giant hands 😆 Expect dancehall, Hip-Hop, and some other bits - with content warning!

Tune in @ https://twitch.tv/airadam13 at 11pm UK / 6pm Eastern / 3pm Pacific.

"A 12-inch vinyl record can hold about 44 minutes of music. But manufacturing one can take multiple days — a complex but delicate process involving sapphires, rubies and silver."

Artists are all-in on vinyl. See how records are made in 2024: https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/interactive/2024/how-vinyl-records-made-taylor-swift/

In 1983 I was 9 years old and fully turned onto the exploding breakdancing scene, inspired by the electronic beats of rap heroes like Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five and The Sugarhill Gang. Which led me to purchase my first vinyl record ever during a mall outing with my Grandma. Newcleus - “Jam on Revenge” which spawned an all-time electro dance classic, “Jam On It”.

At the WORKINONIT beatmaker's social on Sunday at The Hip-Hop Chip Shop, Lone Apostrophe was giving away a bunch of Japanese records he came into possession of (long and amusing story), so I took three in the hope of finding some sample material. My hopes were centred on the top one, and while it's actually mostly speaking, there are a few nuggets there to work with!

𝘎𝘦𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘮𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘺 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 with Dire Straits' 'Brothers In Arms'. 🫂🎸💿 (13 May 1985)
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The best-selling Dire Straits album from their discography, alas perhaps not my favourite — maybe second favourite on most days, or on certain days even third favourite. Morever, I never liked the cover artwork, even though it is widely recognisable nowadays. Nonetheless, the music on this record is terrific though, thus it has its artistic merits; from the timeless "Money For Nothing" with that recognisable guitar riff, to the emotive title track. Mark Knopfler's guitar tone and playing alone are stellar (as always), but the rest of the band are also great and tight. Honestly, I, however, have some bias towards this album as I heard several of its tracks on a CD compilation on repeat during road trips with my parents when I was kid. Therefore tracks such as "Walk Of Life" and "Money For Nothing" were ingrained in my brain. I could argue it holds a special place in my heart as it is a link to my childhood. Lastly, some sources claim 'Brothers In Arms' was release on 13 May 1985, others on 17 May 1985, but I decided to post about it on this day.
