borgmatic dev here. First of all, if Vorta is working well for you to recover files, then by all means use Vorta! Right tool for the job and all. Having said that, a couple of thoughts on using borgmatic in Docker and recovering files:
borgmatic has a search feature that makes finding a particular file in an archive or across archives pretty easy. So that might be step one in restoring an accidentally deleted file.
Once you’ve found the file and archive to restore, you can either use borgmatic extract or borgmatic mount. With extract, you copy one or more files out of a backup archives. The challenge though is that with borgmatic in a container, by default there’s not an easy way to copy those files into their original locations. However I think the “fix” is to mount your source volumes as read-write instead of (the documented) read-only. That way you can easily copy extracted files back to where they belong.
As for borgmatic mount, you’ve got a similar challenge and fix. You can presumably mount backup archives (or a whole repository) within the container, but then you need to copy your recovered files out of that mount into their original source volumes. So that probably also means those volumes need to be mounted read-write.
So a side project that's been sitting on the burner for 3 years is a manual 'everything' shredder.
I have the shredding unit, but nothing to power it with, and certainly no 3 phase electric motor which is what everyone suggests. I have no electricity where I work.
What I need is a good old fashion hand crank/wheel. Better would be a geared one. Like a cast iron mangler or something.
Preferably something that doesn't cost much. Any help?

Would be neat if it resized the search bar to fill up more of the screen when you start typing to give more space for results.
When using search on Universeodon it also returns post content which gets a bit crowded in the small box, especially on mobile. I'll attach a screenshot.
👋 Hello #fediverse! I'm going into a meeting at 4ET to talk about our newsroom's social media options.
If you think our station and other #NPR stations should have a Mastodon server or a broader presence in the #fediverse, pls boost this post. If you have thoughts, please reply, I want to hear them!
@gbhnews
A feature that's been missing for Mastodon has been fulltext searching of posts, aka fuzzy search. :fedi:
Searching is mainly done via hashtags so a common trend is to add the relevant tags at the end of posts.
It's a bit of a controversial topic to have the content of posts be searchable on Mastodon, but I'm sure with proper consent options to opt-in or opt-out that hurdle will be solved with good implementation. The discussion lives on here: https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/21627
There are exceptions though using custom implementation patches serverside like this one on universeodon.com written by clever people like VyrCossont https://github.com/VyrCossont/mastodon/pull/8
For news based instances you really do want some forms of better searching like this implemented.
What I just learned about restoring BorgBackups (github.com)
Maybe I state the obvious here but anyway:...
