Finally exhausted my original supply of razor blades (straightedge), which I purchased on May 11, 2022 when I switched from crappy plastic (expensive) razors to straightedge razors. 100 razors lasted more than a year and a half for... $9.64 (plus the razor handle). I finally finished my initial pack of German made Van Der Hagen safety razors and instead of just buying another pack of one kind I got a huge multipack of many brands. Going to start with a 5 pack of Egyptian made Shark Super Stainless Blades tomorrow. The Van Der Hagens have been pretty great, long lasting (its taken me months to go through a 5 pack), and easy to use, and are easy to find in the midwest.It'll be interesting to see how they compare. #safetyrazor#shaving#saferyrazorbladereview

I needed a similar rinse cycle as the VanDerHagens, but they lasted about a week and half. Downside of the thicker blades is they were a bit harder to do detailing around the nose. Like Shark, simple cardboard packaging. Overall not bad, probably really nice for those with thicker beard hair. #safetyrazor#shaving
Today's antique faire finds: a Stahly vibrating safety razor and... I actually don't know what the other thing is, but I bought it anyway.
There are no brand markings on it, only "Patented Feb 9 1915" on the bottom. The bottom twists like the Stahly blade and it seems like the top might rotate. There is a sharp round circle at the top and the dealer seemed to think it was for sharpening blades, but he wasn't sure. Any ideas? Time to do some research.

Is it easy to shave around a beard with a manual razor? I've always used an electric razor because it's easy to maintain my beard. But I want a closer shave, so I'm thinking about a manual razor. #shaving#facialhair
Speaking of hair removal, for my shaving I've been using this Merkur (34C I think) safety razor for years and it's not likely to quit on me. There was a learning curve, but not a big one. The result is quite good.
The titanium coated blades last me many months each and produce minimal waste with no plastic.
I also tested an open razor, but found I can't trust myself waving that around in my face before morning coffee.
