Some quick musings on the weird and wonderful gadgets being shown off at MWC 2024 -- and what they mean for the future of smartphones: #MWC#Samsung#Motorola#HMD#Smartphones
HMD Global's emphasising its own brand rather than "Nokia" for smartphones -- and I reckon that's a smart idea if it wants to attract a wider crowd of phone buyers.
All #smartphones should make it easy to install alternative operating systems on them. I should be able to run #Linux on my phone without middle-man bullshit
I usually do a "One Year Upgrade" video comparing a new phone to the previous, but that really wasn't a fair fight for the OnePlus 11... https://youtu.be/vayYP5F0YDE
Google's Pixel 8 phone has a body temperature sensor. 🤔 (in this case, requires you to hold the phone up to your forehead). Not as intrusive as the connected watches which know when you are sleeping, and know when you are awake, and know if you've been bad or good.... And your sex life (or lack of one, LOL).
Smartphones haven't "plateaued". Samsung and Apple have plateaued.
Reviewers just too nervous to call those companies out directly and piss off the PR reps.
I believe this might be the best premium phone of the year in North America. It's a great return to form for a company that consistently undercuts Samsung and Apple, offering top tier tech.
What happens when a school bans smartphones? A complete transformation
'As the close of the school year neared last June, talk turned to final assignments (the English class was finishing Moby-Dick) and end-of-year fun (there was a trip planned to a local lake). It was, in most ways, a typical teenage afternoon – except that no one was on their phones'
I hate sounding like the old guy in the room when I say things like "phone design used to be more fun". I mean, I AM the old guy in the room, but I hate SOUNDING like the old guy complaining about new tech.
Frosted gradients. Laser etched glossy. Bold primary color polycarb. Metal and leather. Different form factors and features... Sigh...
