I forgot my eyeglasses at home & made an error in my vid. Misidentified it as hooded merganser. It's a #bufflehead (commonly mistaken for hooded merganser).
This lil cutie was fishing. Enjoyed watching it dive & come up again.
Once we lived near a small lake in the Netherlands. There were many coots living in the shore reeds and it was lovely to see them running across the water before they took off in flight. #Birds#Netherlands#Watercolor#Coots#Waterfowl
Pied-billed Grebe doing....well I'm not exactly sure what's going on here. Yoga, pilates, stretching, synchronized swimming practice? I guess it's some sort of preening. There were no other waterfowl in the area, and this character kept slowly spinning in a small circle with that leg up the whole time. Fascinating!
My shutter speed was way too low and I should have zoomed out for best effect, but this male Hooded Merganser was in hot pursuit of a rival.

A pair of Hooded Mergansers (female first). The female seems to be flashing a toothy grin, which would be a bit inaccurate: Mergansers are small diving ducks with noticeable serrations along their jaws that enable them to grasp fish. Males can often be seen with their "hoods" fully displayed, giving them that "big hair'" look, but this one had just made a dive. 1.23.23
