Billionaire Mark Zuckerberg’s next passion is cows and beef. And to start with his passion, he has said that he is raising cows on an island in Hawaii by feeding them macadamia nuts and beer. The idea is, according to Zuckerberg, to create best beef in the world. Critics call cattle-raising project on Hawaii ranch ‘a...
I can’t tell if this is real or not. If it is I’m glad Zuck found another hobby and involves his children in it from a bonding perspective. But it is just another reminder to me that billionaires should not exist. That much wealth concentration is a net negative for everyone, maybe including the billionaire themself. #BillionairesShouldNotExist#Zuckerberg
As Hamilton Nolan notes, in 2015, Mark Zuckerberg wrote a treacly public letter to his daughter, announcing that he'd be giving away his enormous wealth to promote equality.
But in the real world, what is Zuckerberg actually doing? He's spent almost a decade buying land on the Hawaiian island of Kauai, and is building a survival shelter for himself and his family there.
He's constructing a 1,400-acre compound of mansions, treehouses, and tunnels, a $270m project whose crown jewel is a 5,000-sq-ft underground shelter with “its own energy and food supplies” and “what appears to be a blast-resistant door.”
"Odd, is it not, that a man whose primary concern is global equality would need a subterranean apocalypse shelter designed to seal him off from all of the (equal) people outside who would be, presumably, burning or starving or being eaten by the zombies?"
Perhaps "equality" means something different to the Zuckerbergs and Dorseys and Thiels and Musks of the world than it does to us ordinary non-tech-bro folks?
#ClimateDiary It just does my head in that the billionaires who are destroying our world are all building bunkers for themselves and yet the rest of the world continues to admire them, bedazzled, distracted by the billionaires social media platforms
2/3 By chance i listened to two @BBCRadio4 podcasts today that
really resonate with the #Zuckerberg#Bunker story (⬆️). The first is yesterday’s Start of the Week interview with Naomi Alderman (“The Future”), David Runciman (“The Handover”) and Mike Wooldridge (#Christmas lectures) about #AI, states, corporations and #TechBillionaires. Really worth listening to
DID YOU KNOW that if Threads users can look at your toots then it allows Mark Zuckerberg to travel across the Internet and molest your instance with his unknowable sex organ or "proboscis", permanently tainting it in the eyes of the Lord? This is just one of the many very real and not at all imaginary ways in which this could cause a problem. #meta#threads#zuckerberg#proboscis#fedimeta
Me when reading about Zuck wanting to build an impenetrable fortress in Hawaii: what the fuck, why is he building all these defenses, is he worried about people rising up or something?
Me when reading that it consists of million dollar treehouses connected by rope bridges so he can live among the treetops: oh fuck this guy, time to grab the guillotines ohhhhhhhh that's why.
#Meta CEO #MarkZuckerberg posted on #Threads that the platform is beginning to test making Threads posts available on #Mastodon and other #ActivityPub-supporting services. #Zuckerberg wrote that making Threads work with the interoperable standard “will give people more choice over how they interact and it will help content reach more people.” #Fediverse
so, #zuckerberg says Threads posts will be available in the fediverse as the first step...but wouldn't Threads actors need to be available as the first step? How's Threads backend going to know where in the fediverse to deliver any given post if there's no follow relationship yet?
Mark Zuckerberg raising cows by feeding them dry fruits and beer, says he wants to create world's best beef (ground.news)
