Taking these shapes from concept to code took me far longer then it probably should have. One of those sketches that take a lot of thought and effort to try and look effortless.

Well, that recursion turned out kind of pretty.

Well, the recursion spreads out in a six-fold diagonal direction, so it sort of suggests hexagons and certainly you could trace many hexagons.

Been sick in bed for the last couple days. Between sniffles and sleeping I started code-doodling. This started as an attempt at splattered paint, but gradually found form. I guess I'm ready for spring already.

Code at : https://openprocessing.org/sketch/2179025

Off-white canvas gradually fills with colorful gradient filled lines coming from top, grassy lines coming from bottom and droopy flower comes spreading out in middle top.

Building upon my experiments with the space colonization algorithm. This time placing defined constraints on the placement of the 'nutrients' the growths are seeking, in order to roughly form shapes and a tiling pattern.

Code/ run at : https://openprocessing.org/sketch/2169799

Branching growth pattern fill in rectangular shapes (minus regularly placed circles.). Then each circle is filled with the same sort of growths.

Trying to pull together some threads of ideas from . Still very much a WIP.

Finished my second ! I try to make something real and good for every prompt. Some always succeed far better than others. I learn a lot and am left with many threads to pick up and explore. Have really enjoyed seeing everyone's work this genuary, nice job all! Here's a little generative goodbye song, sung by simplex noise tuned to a minor key.
Code/endless song: https://openprocessing.org/sketch/2162435

Wavy lines squeeze in to the notes, while colors squares in center fade in and out to the notes.

Well, is SDF's and is shaders, which often use SDF's. Seems natural to combine them. Last year,'s Genuary the SDF prompt lead me to spend February and March learning shaders. However... as soon as I learned enough to make something decent, I went right back to Javascript. So this sad blob is a slight reworking of where I left off in my shader journey.

pulsing, jelly-like blob of concentric gradients of muted blue and black

Skeuomorphism(derivative object that retains attributes from structures that were necessary in the original) is the prompt for . Ooof, I had trouble thinking of any idea for this one. But the more I though about it, I kept thinking about how many societal norms could be thought of as skeuomorphs.

Code at: https://openprocessing.org/sketch/2158847

The words "decompose billionaires' appear. Then small drawn animation mushrooms begin to quickly grow all over the words.

Prompt for is 'Code for one hour. At the one hour mark, you’re done.' I started with a vague idea of having a pattern in two color schemes layered by floating blobs. Used the the blobs from wobbly function day. I like the idea that this is an abstract autumn forest with cold clouds overhead, but that narrative is a happy accident. I stayed true to the prompt and stopped at an hour.

Code at :https://openprocessing.org/sketch/2158408

Soft autumn colors in triangular grid with dark lines in a vaguely tree-like pattern. Blobs travel up the canvas, displaying the same pattern but in cooler shades of green and blue

@freequaybuoy nice! I have a bunch of flash projects saved on an old drive somewhere

@freequaybuoy nice Truchet tiling— reminds me of some of the work @ronikaufman does.

I combined and to make a re-creation of a cool texture pic from my phone, while also growing from seeds (i.e. seed crystals). I positioned the clusters using a Poisson disc sampling code from @AaronReuland (which was adapted from Daniel Shiffman's code). It would be fun to delve further into this. Needs more sparkles, at least.

You can run it here to see it grow:
https://openprocessing.org/sketch/2156827

An ice crystal texture I made using p5.js today, in an attempt to emulate the one in the previous image. Contrast and brightness adjusted slightly.

AaronReuland,
@AaronReuland@mstdn.social avatar

@Metamere looks fantastic! The original texture looks like frost on a windshield, which I thought about recreating for Genuary 25. So glad the poisson disc function has been useful for others!

For (Grow a seed). I built a system with the space colonization algorithm. Each click plants a seed and disperses some 'nutrients' which all planted seeds compete for.

I take a lot of photos as I walk in the woods (most days, if I can help it). I love finding compositions of fungi, moss and lichen on rock and bark. So I tried to recreate one such composition for
Code at: https://openprocessing.org/sketch/2155853

Slowly a pattern resembling bark is drawn across the canvas. Dark green moss is left behind in patches and occasionally patches of bright orange tiny fungi start growing.
