I reworked the preview generation scheme for now that it can fill in more quickly at the start. It doesn't need to run for too long before a nice image emerges. I made good progress on debugging and balancing the various elements and I think it shows in these 156 configs, divided randomly into 4 sets. The fine or subtle textures and motion aren't captured in this format, but it does give a general impression of the overall balance between order and chaos.

Inspired by the visual style of the poems of Jody Gladding I wrote this meditation on parenthood.
Then I coded some visuals in javaScript.

I don't read a ton of poetry these days, certainly not as much as I did once. But just read "I entered without words" by Jody Gladding all the way through. Then I immediately started over again. Reveals meaning slowly with words scattered meaningfully throughout the page. Very unique and delightfully visual style.
Highly recommend!

@Chelleville You are aware this is AI created and these are not really frescos from Pompeii, right?

(The multiple tails might have been a hint.)

Chapter 3 (Triangles) of 'figures'. Animated minimalist diagrams from an imaginary textbook.

What should chapter 4 be? Hexagons? Blobs?

A challenge for all chums out there (and the rest of you too, of course). Here are some . What’s the track? So rarely does the find its way into we must celebrate it when it does! I think the (the long one, of course! Duh!) is one of the most formative in the making of the .

Was watering my windowsill plants today, looked over at another pot that's nearby, and got jumpscared by this little mushroom, which was definitely not there a couple days ago!

The pot used to contain cilantro, but it died several months ago, so I cleared out the dead plant and left the pot of dirt sitting there until I had a use for it. I'm surprised a mushroom would grow in soil that hasn't been watered for months, but it has been very hot and humid the past few days.

Since I have no idea what kind of mushroom it is and I don't really want more of them popping up, I assume the appropriate course of action is to remove & compost? But open to other advice as this is a new situation for me :)

AaronReuland,
@AaronReuland@mstdn.social avatar

@emma
Well, mushrooms are the flowering bodies to fungi that (often) live in symbiotic and mutual beneficial relationships with plants, so you can always the pluck the shroom if not to your liking , but I leave them , because they are probably helping whatever plant I grow there. BUT I'm also kind of a fan of fungi, so I may be biased. My thoughts. There certainly isn't only one way to garden. Happy growing!

Bit of a weird question maybe, but suppose you go to a therapist (e.g. psychologist), and you see one of these, quite big, hang on a wall. Do you find it a bit too much distracting? Or even a bit creepy, anxiety inducing? And If yes, is it the colours, or the warped / incomplete structure?
Any therapist here? 😀

AaronReuland,
@AaronReuland@mstdn.social avatar

@robertoranon
Not a therapist, but I would say that I find the pieces with less contrasting colors , and less emptiness, to be more calming (so the 1st and last), if that helps.

I'll start the day playing with code (and continue writing an application for a grant).

I should change those normals to be per-vertex to make the little triangles disappear...

AaronReuland, (edited )
@AaronReuland@mstdn.social avatar

@hamoid Honestly, I think the triangles give it a pleasant texture. Very nice!

'Chapter 2' (squares) of 'Figures' my series of minimalist imaginary animated textbook illustrations. Made last year.
Chapter 3 (Triangles) is in progress now.

A series of five minimalist animations, using only brightly colored squares.

Every six months or so I get the itch to add to the series I call 'figures' of very minimalist imaginary animated textbook illustrations. Here was the first 'chapter' using circles.

I'm working on chapter 3 (triangles) now.

@pattacakek 💯! I think I identified it as Cortinarius iodes or viscid violet cort. I think technically it’s edible (not poisonous anyway), but I sure wouldn’t eat it— looks like something used in dark magic.:purple_potion:

AaronReuland,
@AaronReuland@mstdn.social avatar

@c_reider Do you think so? I think it might be Cortinarius iodes , because of the viscous coating on the cap. I'm no botanist thought, so I could be wrong. Either way, I've never seen a mushroom with a color like it before.

"Making it up as we go along"
Totally misusing the poisson-disc sampling algorithm here, as well as making circles in an incredibly inefficient way. Both purposely, in the name of art, of course.

Code, such that it is, is here: https://openprocessing.org/sketch/1985352

Circles being formed by scribbles in shifting gradients. Animated, coded art.
