I have decided to dip my toes into the world of Home Assistant. So far the most impressive thing is finally having desktop access to all my smart things. Other than that I'm taking it slow because it's all a bit overwhelming.
Long ago I bought a Craftsman screwdriver - back when Craftsman were inside a Sears. I figured the design was generic enough to be used by another company. After squinting at lots of pictures on ebay I found it!
I'm always fascinated with tools. Today I learned that curl can use "globbing" to try several urls where you are not sure about part of it. So if I give it: "https://my-url/logs/2023/10/[01-03]-log.txt". This will try 01-log.txt, 02-log.txt, and 03-log.txt.
Just finished the last bit of deferred maintenance on the goose. The screwheads on the hub had stripped, so the lower shaft had to be cut out and replaced with a new one, so we could finally switch up the sprocket to take slack out of the chain. It doesn't look any different on the outside, but it runs much smoother now!
@w7voa I'm guessing that mobile phone users won't be able to listen to those broadcasts? It always bugs me that apple/google were allowed to remove am/fm radio receivers from their devices. It seems like it's the best method & requires the least amount of battery.
Trying to observe the Perseid meteor shower through clusters of Starlink satellites crisscrossing the sky is a metaphor for our times. Billionaires are simply ruining everything.
@mastodonmigration We're out camping and I was able to find a field to lay down and watch for a bit with the kids. We saw several smaller ones but nothing really big. I still remember one I saw on a ferry back ~2003 that was like a yellow highlighter.
