I bet more people would like mass transit if we could get a turn at driving the bus/metro/train/tram/gondola/jitney/catbus instead of always being passive-engers.
For my money, the most impactful scene in The Great Gatsby is in the denouement where she says “truly, he was a great gatsby” & what’s-his-name retorts: no, Daisy, he was THE great gatsby.”
@Binder That's a good scene, agreed. But who can forget the closing of "Lord of the Flies" where the kids are all eaten by a swarm of flies summoned by the re-animated corpse of Piggy?
@Binder My neighbors hardly know I exist because the only time I go outside is to go somewhere or out to smoke. Then when they see me, they're like, "how long have you lived here?"
I was trying out different Linux desktop options in the mid-90s, thinking, yeah, this just needs a few tweaks, but in a few years this'll be everywhere . . .
And TBF the cores of open source OSes are everywhere, they're just called ChromeOS, iOS, Android, and MacOS.
