I honestly don't get why the NYT and WaPo are so awful.

I can only imagine they have some fear (perhaps rational, I don't care) like they will lose all their advertisers if they write with any perspective at all.

American hustle culture believes sleep is for the weak while it's the single most important association I have with emotional regulation.

I'd have allowed myself to sleep much more as a young man if I had understood.

Good luck running your product dev with soul-dead supplicants.

a) telling you things are complicated when they are not, and

b) telling you things are simple when they are not.

Full text of the resignation letter of Lily Greenberg Call, the first Jewish Biden appointee to resign over war in Gaza:

Dear Secretary Haaland,

I joined the Biden Administration because I believe in fighting for a better America, for a future where Americans can thrive: one with economic prosperity, a healthy planet, and equal rights for all people. I have dedicated my career to candidates who I believed would further this vision.

Explain to me like I'm 10 years old: Is the Biden tariffs on electric vehicles, batteries, and solar panels coming from China motivated 100% by politics (and maybe racism), or is there some other (more legit) reason to do it?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9PEcRiZPdvY

CartyBoston,
@CartyBoston@mastodon.roundpond.net avatar

@davidho

I grew up in a steel town ages ago and watched how tariffs and subsidies affect industry.

I don't support Biden's 100% tariff on Chinese electric cars, but examining one trade regulation in isolation may not be all that helpful.

China provides subsidies and levies tariffs too, we should not simply unilaterally disarm.

I don't care much about GM and Ford, and I sure as shit don't care about Elon Musk, but I hope we make room for some truly innovative American manufacturers to thrive.

Today is the anniversary of the MOVE bombing. The only thing that’s changed is police are far more militarized, far more funded, and far less accountable, while their supporters fly a desecrated flag to explicitly endorse their violent attacks.

Gotcha but in Philadelphia last week the police refused to act to breakup the student protests at Penn, they deserve credit for their progress.

I'm sick of justifying ethical behavior in terms of profit. We use phrases like "adding alt-text brings more customers to your site" or "protected bike lanes increase revenue for local businesses."

You should add alt-text descriptions to images because it helps people.

We need to build bike lanes because it makes cities safer and more accessible.

Reduce carbon emissions because it's the right thing to do! Discussing these things in purely economic terms misses the point.

CartyBoston,
