I agree with @ixtility that the e-bike boom is partly from e-bikes getting you there fast and without sweat or sore knees.

And I think that you ain't seen what a boom IS before you build the streets that are safe for bike riders.

This is why climate communications need to be mostly about solutions, and how implementing those solutions is much less expensive than doing nothing.

Typical summer in our home means putting the step-stool under the power breaker box in our apartment. All of our appliances are <5 years old, still: 40A line into 1930’s apartment gets used pretty quick. A/C in either the living room or the bedroom, but not both. Two desktop computers fine, but no microwave, kettle, or vacuum.

I want a bigger line into my unit, so I can replace my gas stove with an electric, but I wonder if my summer usage will go up.

Any experience with this?

CelloMomOnCars,
@CelloMomOnCars@mastodon.social avatar

@atthenius @enobacon

You will not use more energy as long as you don't get an additional appliance 🙂
I mean, your current predicament is that you can't use your current stuff at the same time, but you still have to vacuum, make tea, etc.

If it's any consolation: Homes in Jakarta get 15 amps (at 220V) standard. You can have more but it comes in a separate box, coin or card operated. They really make you feel your energy use.

A large part of poor countries' budgets is spent on repaying high-interest "development loans" to rich countries (who have looted their resources in the past, and some in the present).

What is a Just Energy Transition Partnership?

"The model focuses on expanding access to both public and to support critical and catalytic system needs. The funds come from a group of international countries called the International Partner Group (IPG) and private financial institutions. "

Sure, "The just transition is country and context specific."

Otherwise it's just sparkling colonialism.

I hope environmental and climate justice groups become the watchdogs on these deals, and hound the participants until they get it right.
