I love hearing AI advocares talk about "guard rails" and "safety procedures". We're actively building an intellegence that supercedes our own. It's like a monkey saying it's developed safety procedures to keep the humans in line.
@mike I'm not sure how this doesn't go poorly. How are we ever going to control this genie? It's not like you can trust your rival (whatever this could mean - another nation, a job-competitor, another corporation, etc.) to not go too far with things?
My recent reading on climate change and AI don't make me confident for humankind's future.
Bets on Hellebuyck asking for a trade after this season? Just hanging him out to dry every single game. Where's Toffoli the "natural goal scorer"? Where's the Jennings Trophy team? Just a disaster. #HNOM#NHLJets
Happy Draftmas Eve, for all those that celebrate! The football season is about to begin!
NFL draft tomorrow, CFL draft on April 30th, and my beloved Blue Bombers open their rookie camp on May 8th. Looking forward to 8 months of football action!
This video is 6 years old, so there is nothing new here. Even so,
(1) It sure gets my adrenaline going, and
(2) It's hard not to choke up a little when Don Wittman begins speaking at 1:58 in.
@mike@krst If the Jets make it through the first round, it would make some sense to be ahead of as many teams as possible, for home ice in future series. And then there's the Jennings trophy.
But, Job 1 is being as healthy and rested as possible after 82 games.
@britt I thought that Duotangs were still pretty common. Hmm, interesting. I used them in school in the 70s and 80s, and I think my kids even used them in the 00's (maybe not?)?
One hell of a game by Rachel Homan and her team! Team Canada wins the Worlds for the first time since Jennifer Jones in 2018. Her "3" in the 9th end sealed the deal.
It's been a long time since I've seen a scam attempt this silly. Kind of makes you pine for the good old days when it was a whole lot easier to avoid online fraud.
Sometimes when you get older you reminisce about a place and you long to go back. Then you realize that even if you did go back that place wouldn't be there anymore. It only existed as you experienced it in that moment of time.
That place is gone forever and only exists with you.
@mike This is so true. You can never go back and experience a place in the same way you did the first time. Having said this, taking kids to that place and seeing it through their eyes is the next best thing.
So, he's a righty (a need for us). And The Athletic says that he's a good 5v5 player at both ends of the ice. So, seems like another savvy pickup by Cheveldayoff?
After several years, I just finished rewatching "Searching for Sugar Man". 10/10 - just an absolutely amazing story. Hairs standing up on the back of my neck, tears streaming down my face.
It's a documentary about a musician - that's all I'll say, for those that haven't seen it. It's too good a story to ruin.
In Canada, it's free to watch on Amazon Prime. I can guarantee you won't regret watching it, especially you @JeffDanielswpg.
For some reason, I actually remember how I found out about the movie - Peter Mansbridge posted on Twitter how much he enjoyed it, probably shortly after it came out. Those were the good old days, when the dirty bird wasn't an extreme cesspool. Sigh...
