So has all the same moderation issues of the rest of the fediverse... but without the benefit of being independent and not-for-profit?

Nor with the "place where everyone is" -ness of the old twitter?

What is the benefit then?
Is it mostly just easier to use?

If it drains more people from twitter making that place more dead good enough.

Two big accounts (800K+ followers) are now not able to consistently get 10K likes on their posts. Dropped to about 50/50 a few weeks ago when I last checked. Some smaller accounts (150K) are pulling the same numbers as before (300-1.5K likes).

They are still getting about 1% of followers engaging, but have so many bots and inactive accounts in their follower counts that I have been looking at percentages of views for a more accurate measure. The big accounts were running at 3%. Better than than the 1% I've read is a healthy marker of a professional account, lower than the 5-8% of their follower counts they were pulling in late winter.

I did notice two accounts with about 40K that are pulling great numbers. I haven't followed them in my trolling, so I don't know what they did previously.

Accounts under 5K continue to be ignored. I will never understand why those accounts don't jump to the fediverse. One in particular is quite witty. That account would do well here.

I'm on the list, too. Always curious about new platforms. And my guess is that after two weeks, I will have another inactive account to add to my I'd Rather Fediverse collection.

It is not part of my regular trolling, but any professional account should figure out how to start casting nets into Instagram. It is a very different approach, however, and if they can't figure out the fediverse, I am thinking they won't be able to make the necessary adjustments.

At this point, with Bluesky kind of hanging there in its invite-only mode, it seems there has already been a loss of active followers driving engagement.

Professional accounts need to understand that Twitter will never recapture those followers. They need to start casting smaller nets in all of the different platform ponds or come to terms with the smaller haul in the cesspool that is Twitter.

A third option of deciding to make their way to Bluesky and hope all of the fish follow is questionable. The fish have found other ponds and are happy. They may check out Bluesky, but it has to be better than the pond in which they are. Bluesky being better than Twitter is not enough.

This might be a hot take, but I believe most white 'leftists' only care about the latest round of fascist and harmful policy because it is affecting them now.

It's always been like this if you're Native, Black and/or Brown.

What is happening is a result of decades of policymaking because white people ignored them when violent laws weren't targeting them.

Nah, it's not the END OF THE WORLD to the RISE OF FASCISM.

Most people just ignored it because they weren't the targets.

It's just another day in the US.

My husband is a low-level elected official. He's very progressive and Latino.

And the people that are most hostile to him are the two white male progressives. The shenanigans to keep him in his place are insane.

The insistence of preserving white privilege is deeply embedded in our society. As you said, every one seems to get the assignment.

Please move far away. Not that schools in Florida should have to deal with this kind of nonsense either, but no one in Montgomery County, Maryland is here for this kind of nonsense. Or Mt. Lebanon, PA. It’s quite brazen to sue or try to take over school boards in highly-Democratic areas, but that seems to be the next front in the anti-LGBTQ materials in schools crusade.

The kids are reflecting their perceptions of others' words or actions. If the parents aren't the source, the parents need to have conversations with the boys to find out where those attitudes are forming and take active steps to override the influence of others.

    I wish Mastodon and the fediverse had provided a more welcoming and safe experience for everyone at the beginning of the Muskification of Twitter. That is why I do hope Bluesky becomes a viable alternative to Twitter. It is not the right place for me to land, but it may be for others.
