So, what's the thing, what's the big thing no one can help you with? How do you cope with it?

HouseOfSten,
@HouseOfSten@beige.party avatar

@RickiTarr
Existence.

How do I cope?

Pretty much dissociate while waiting for it all to be over.

Mastodon will never be superior to other social media platforms if it doesn't adopt when suggesting hashtags. Defaulting to all lower case does nothing to help me understand the difference between and .

I have superior vision to many my age, but if using was the default, even I wouldn't have unnecessary misunderstandings. It must be quite challenging for people who rely on screen readers.

Where do you live and how do you feel about it?

Obviously, don't tell me exactly where you live, no actual addresses please! You can be as vague as you like.

I live in Central Missouri in the U.S.

Pros:

This is an absolutely beautiful place, green rolling hills, lots of rivers, lakes, ponds, and natural springs, cool caves to explore.

Lots of farming here, so great access to quality fruits, vegetables, meat, eggs, and dairy.

It's relatively inexpensive to live here compared with other states, because it's a "flyover".

I'm close enough to three major cities, that it's an easy day trip, and I'm about halfway to anywhere in the U.S.

We have one of the best Conservation departments in the U.S. and this is one of the few things that is a bipartisan issue. Lots of awesome nature programs that are free or cheap, state parks, conservation areas, bird watching, hunting, boating, foraging available to everyone.

Cons:

Yeah, it's a big one, it is a RED STATE, while a lot of the cities are blue, there is a large rural population, that votes red. Abortion is not legal here. People often vote against their own self interest.

While I'm not against responsible gun ownership, lots of people aren't responsible, and people have access to guns that definitely should not.

We have very few employee protections here, while the cost of living is relatively low compared with other places, it's taken years to get to a $12 minimum wage, and it's still not enough.

Funny and creative?

Ricki, you know I can't do both at once.

Everyone talks about how A.I. will destroy humanity when in actuality it’s going to be when dogs become sentient and realize we gave them fake bacon.

HouseOfSten,
@HouseOfSten@beige.party avatar

@Mrfunkedude
I've only given my dog real bacon. It's why he's fat and happy. He'll spare me.

HA!

So my girlfriends work told everyone a week ago that remote working would go from 8 days a month to 4, and this REALLY upset her fellow employees.

So much so that management had a special meeting where they told everyone that they weren't going to renew their lease next month and that they'd be looking for a smaller office space. And that anyone who wanted to could work remote permanently.

I LOVE IT! I GET MY LOVE BACK!!!

HouseOfSten,

@Mrfunkedude
This is exactly how and why workers need to keep fighting these companies. The ONLY reason they care about people being in the office is because of their real estate holdings.

It was never about the work.

What cracks me up is when you go to a restaurant, and they ask if you've been there before, and then they say, "Well, we do things a little different here", and then it's exactly like every other restaurant, but more expensive.

HouseOfSten,
@HouseOfSten@beige.party avatar

@RickiTarr
Being autistic, I never know how to answer that if it's a chain restaurant. Yes, I've done business with your brand, but never at this location. Does that matter?

I just want you all to know, that I just typed this using Linux.

Am I an official Fedizen now?

My daughter just quit her job that reduced her hours down to 8 a week.

Good for her.

I'm sure she'll find something else soon, or start selling her paintings. Either way, I'm glad she's done with that place.

If I was a bitter father, I'd wait two months, create an alias, and start a complaint campaign to corporate about their managers lack of any real managerial skills.

But, that's not me. (this time) I'd rather focus on the future and helping her move forward.

"But that's not me."

That just means you've matured enough to know your energy is better spent elsewhere.

If you get mad when you see employees at a business you are patronizing laughing, enjoying each other's company, and goofing off, you're a dick. Empathize with people working a shitty underpaid job, and let them enjoy what little fun they get.

HouseOfSten,
@HouseOfSten@beige.party avatar

@RickiTarr
I enjoy seeing that stuff. I don't care if there's a five second delay to help me if the people are making an effort to enjoy their shitty jobs.

It's strange to me when I see people get upset about people doing good deeds, and posting it online.

"They're just doing it for attention!"

Yeah, so what? I'd much rather see people doing nice things for attention, than the people who do mean pranks or wasting food. A good deed is still good, even if it's done for the wrong reasons.

HouseOfSten,
@HouseOfSten@beige.party avatar

@RickiTarr On top of that, kids seeing these good deeds may be inspired to do the same. My 10 year old son regularly talks about all the ways his favorite influencers help people and how he wants to do the same for others.

I call that a win.

@Alice Are they still yoga pants if you don't do yoga?
