He's a gay fish.

The current Guinness world record holder for "hottest pepper" has held the title for 10 years, and is the Carolina Reaper, at 1.64M Scovilles ..

Cultivated by American breeder "Smokin' Ed" Currie, which is funny for at least 2 reasons:

🌶️ Curry. (The food, not the clown. There is nothing funny about the clown)
🌶️ A "Curie" is the approximate radioactive decay of 1g of radium per second. 🔥

Stefon of SNL: "SPICY"

Periodic reminder that if you're a leftist and you don't wear a mask indoors in public; no you ain't

Jon_Kramer,
@Jon_Kramer@mastodon.social avatar

@eniko , I haven't been anywhere to be exposed to covid in over 8 days.

Masks do less to protect YOU and more to protect OTHERS. You can, if not infected, be excused for random trips out in public without a mask. What you can't be excused for is a 2nd trip into public without a mask.

Jon_Kramer,
@Jon_Kramer@mastodon.social avatar

@eniko , I think people put too much stock in how masks protect them... You still unconsciously touch your face after touching a door knob, or rub your eyes, etc. You CAN get it. A mask really seems to help you to not spread it to others.

Meta unveils stylish — yes really — Smart Glasses with freakishly advanced AI capabilities

https://nypost.com/2023/09/28/meta-sparks-privacy-fears-with-smart-glasses-hidden-cameras/

“You can now film everyone without them knowing it! It’s a bit obvious when you’re walking into public toilets with your phone in the air compared to wearing glasses at the urinals.”

Jon_Kramer,
@Jon_Kramer@mastodon.social avatar

@Decentralize want. I want them to be able to identify people. Imagine being pulled over, and you ask the cop "so Edward, I see you have been reprimanded 6 times for excessive force and lying on reports. Does your son Bob still go to Blank High School since you live at 1234 Main st?"

Trump knows exactly what he’s doing when he eggs on his rabid base that this “political hack judge” in New York is “unhinged” and “must be stopped.” He hides behind the First Amendment, but he’s a mob boss, and he knows from experience that there are dangerous elements in his MAGA base. People will take things into their own hands when he demands, “WE NEED JUSTICE IN OUR COUNTRY!” Trump must be kept from issuing threats to witnesses and court officials ahead of his trials.

Jon_Kramer,
@Jon_Kramer@mastodon.social avatar

@dannotdaniel @georgetakei I feel you. I feel guilty for even thinking it at times... But then I think about how many lives would have been saved if COVID killed the MFer, and how Jan 6th never would have happened, etc. And the anger overshadows the guilt. The guilt is still there, but small in comparison.

@DavidCorn I look at him as a centrist, so maybe this will draw the political theater to the left a bit??

Jon_Kramer,
@Jon_Kramer@mastodon.social avatar

@DavidCorn , a centrist would naturally be closer to the left wing than others, and more approachable. So maybe West can nudge the right wing nuts in power now a bit left?

never forget: we didn’t ask for robot cars. when polled US majorities have always wanted action on climate, good public transit & safe streets. but our leaders act without our consent.

last year, 78% polled wanted increased investment in US passenger rail, a number that went to 80% among women and 82% in cities and 91% among Black people. this year, 76% polled in the US said they are afraid of self-driving cars & just 9% say they trust them and that number is declining year to year

Just a reminder

The same cops that won't protect children from an active shooter out of fear

...Are the same cops that pull up and begin shooting children playing outside

...Are the same cops that will try to run over a moped on the Van Wyck Expressway because being on a moped there "is dangerous"

Cops need a hard reboot.

    @andthisismrspeacock , what do you think currency is?

    Jon_Kramer,
    @Jon_Kramer@mastodon.social avatar

    @andthisismrspeacock , apologies, I only saw the one post, and lucky for both of us, it is the one you didn't number. I should have picked up on the "tl;dr" but I'm a bonehead.

    I'm not sure which of those 3 criteria crypto doesn't meet. For example, if you know you have 2 bitcoin, and someone else has four, you can buy 1/2 as much as the other guy. This is a measure of value that is fairly consistent. If you keep the bitcoin in your wallet, that value is stored.

    Jon_Kramer,
    @Jon_Kramer@mastodon.social avatar

    @andthisismrspeacock And if you spend it, you have used it as a medium of exchange. I can get behind it not having a physical presence, which seems to be a definition for 'currency'...

    Jon_Kramer,
    @Jon_Kramer@mastodon.social avatar

    @andthisismrspeacock, If I can't ballpark the cost of those things in Yen, does that make yen not a currency? Is the Zimbabwe dollar not currency because it is even more volatile than bitcoin? In some circles, bitcoin is readily exchanged and apparently fairly stable. At least it appears that way to me...

    Jon_Kramer,
    @Jon_Kramer@mastodon.social avatar

    @AGTMADCAT I think if the standard of what is or is not currency relies on the location I live is a bit far fetched.

    Jon_Kramer,
    @Jon_Kramer@mastodon.social avatar

    @AGTMADCAT your argument is that nothing is objectively a currency then? Because someone somewhere can't use it?

    I can accept that... but that would make anything and everything a local currency, including crypto, wouldn't it?

    This sounds more like philosophy rather than something testable or definable. Which may be what economics is, for all I know. I took economics 101 in college, which is as basic as it gets.

    We're late for some interrogation of what centrism actually is, what it shows up for, what its aims are.

    Centrism's self-identifiers wield a facade of 'norm-at-neutral' that claims reasonableness, obviousness, and above all, lack of culpability (and underlying lack of agency).

    This is, quite likely, bullshit.

    Jon_Kramer,
    @Jon_Kramer@mastodon.social avatar

    @jordinn I have very rarely met anyone on the far left. There are almost none of them in office. Not many far right guys either... but at least I can name more than two.

    The reason centrists have issues is that both sides are in favor of increased policing and bloated military budgets. Or fossil fuel subsidies. Those always seem to get passed when the votes happen... and both "sides" vote the same way.

    just because someone says they are left leaning, and they use all the right social justice rhetoric, it does not mean they are a good person.
    “left” doesn’t automatically mean better morality.
    some of the worst people say the most righteous things.
    it’s actions that speak louder than words.

    i wish i knew this earlier, it would have saved a lot of shock.

    Jon_Kramer,
    @Jon_Kramer@mastodon.social avatar

    @alienmelon , I can't agree with this more, and often my guard is down when I meet a new person, because of them being more left...

    I would say that being a right winger in todays environment is a clear indication of being a bad person. And I find myself with a very low tolerance for some attitudes or policy desires by the right. But many lefties are just downright bad folks... But wear a badge of honor they don't deserve.
