@anathema_device I really am not against disarming the people, as Australia did. It doesn't change the homicide rate very much. But part of doing this is FIRST you need to disarm the police. If this is not done, you end up with two classes of people, and that is dangerous.

@Wen @anathema_device No. People kill in other ways if they don't have one type of tool. Often they kill themselves. But guns are not really a significant threat, unless you are in contact with the police. No weapon is. 100% of the population dies, and in America, it is roughly 0.25% of them that is gunshots? It's really low, and you can correct this downward with lifestyle choices. Don't join a biker gang, don't rob corner stores, etc.

And until recently, the suicide rate in Japan was higher than the suicide and murder rates in the USA, combined.

In australia, the homicide rate went up slightly for a few years after they banned most guns, while before the ban the rate had been steadily falling.

@RickiTarr I went with "parents who had no business being parents ".

My father was emotionally abusive to me my entire life, until I cut him from my life in 1987. Apparently this was because he hated my mother or something... my 1/2 siblings did not have the same experience with him.

When he died, all I felt was relief.

My mother would have done better raising foster kids, not me. We still have a close relationship, but she is flawed.

@chrismessina I lasted about a month into Musk's takeover of twitter, and learned in that month that the lack of trust I had in the platform as a whole, in the years before Musk took over, was not going to come back.

I'm not sure how anyone still uses that site. Is it the drama you love? The hate?? Is it a business choice?

@Toastie Back in the late 80s, I was just north of Ft Bliss, on the way to White sands. Some of our unit was crossing War Rd, at about 5 a.m., in an M88. A guy who was used to miles of open road with no traffic in a rather large SUV was apparently reading a newspaper. The guys in the M88 did feel a bump... The guy in the SUV didn't feel anything.

Don't buy a huge vehicle. What will save your life is paying attention, and eventually, self driving cars. Your SUV won't protect you from a semi.

@absolutspacegrl @JohnBarentine Thanks. I have seen quite a few articles trying to blame relatively new private companies, while it seems anti-sat tests, and government equipment are the major culprits, at least right now.

I assume really low earth orbit is self-cleaning, but as we go higher, it is becoming a minefield. Are there safe bands?

I will be supporting the federal #NDP at next elections because I can't forgive #Trudeau over #Gaza #Palestine & can't get over #ForkedTongue on several other issues that are very important to me & many #Canadian #BIPOC voters

I don't even like NDP either but it's them or covert WS dude with a pretty face or full out fascist fuckers. Unlike USA - with no real decent election choices between racist sellouts - we still have some options in #Canada.

I am not the same. I am peaceful by choice. But I have served in the military, and have not forgotten my training. I just don't USE it. by choice.

I try very hard to stay out of situations where that training is useful.

I just want something that is good at picking off a varmint that is killing my cats and chickens.
