This is for me to gauge how others think about a sensitive social issue.

I have taken a strong personal stance on it myself & suffered some backlash from a small number of people who believe blood is more important than anything else.

Would you keep on defending close family members who have raped & abused multiple women? When there's no question they're serial abusers/rapists of women? (And you're a woman, yourself)

What's most noteworthy about the judgment against Trump today is that he's been a crook for decades. Countless prosecutors, banks, and others who were in positions to hold him accountable -- including journalists in some ways -- totally capitulated to him when it mattered most.

Our democracy is teetering in significant part because of those abject failures.

Law enforcement seems to have learned from what it did wrong. Journalism plainly has not.

The appellate court gave him only 6 days to file something in the Supreme Court (I can't remember off hand what the usual time frame is but it is much longer.)

Generally nothing happens in 6 days.

Within 24 hours, the Supreme Court said that special counsel has a week to file a response. A week means they are not interested in delays.

Expect the DOJ to file early.

Why give the DOJ a chance to respond?

It makes their life easier because the opposing arguments are laid out for them.

If he wins the general, and does not serve due to incarceration, he is constitutionally prohibited to run, ever again. So his power is gone in about 2 seconds.

@Teri_Kanefield , I think that ends him. I suspect Russia calls in their loans, and he flees someplace non extradition. I think any of his current followers, aside from the obvious loons like MTG or Lake, suddenly shut up and end their support of him.

@flexghost , Anyone making that claim should provide details. It is possible, in theory, but highly unlikely. I have one great grandfather who was born a slave, and was freed at roughly age 20. There are many cases of people more recently than that who were slaves... Think the Nazis. Or Koreans. Until 1945. There are still slaves in the USA right now, mostly Asians. Maybe 60K of them...

But I doubt her father was one, or could have been.

I think she is lying.

@flexghost I don't think she is stretching it. I think she is flat-out lying. I mean, it is POSSIBLE, but unless she has some really extraordinary details to offer up, it's a lie.

In another thread, someone suggested that she is referring to indentured servitude, which was, without doubt, slavery. But that ended by 1800 in America.

Was he a prisoner? Kept incarcerated?? That can qualify as slavery...

I think she is just a liar.

I think one of the reasons ants are so interesting to watch is the expressive way they move their antennae. They move them independently, almost like a person feeling around trying to understand their surroundings. Not all arthropods do this— some just hold them out passively— but not ants! They will tappity tap tap u.

@flexghost I am of the opinion that high stock market values are not good or bad for a POTUS, and don't reflect how the general population is doing. They only indicate how the rich are doing.

But ya, the spin from the far right is going to make this a bad thing for Biden, somehow. Or they will just scream about immigrants... Hard to tell.
