"Spuds" as he came to be known. A mellow cat beyond belief. He started life on the streets, but was utterly inept at taking care of himself. He almost lost an eye, a leg, his tail. He did end up with a smashed jaw and a snaggle-tooth.

After taking him in for emergency care the third week in a row (for a "cat-engine interface" event, as the coworker who called us described it), we just adopted him.

No regrets.

For the record, this was my brother's idea

We adopted Casey last year. She was also totally inept at surviving outside, though not accident prone like your Spuds. She had no idea how to fend for herself, and got our outside cat mad by hanging around for food. The last straw was when she caught a dove, but had no idea what to do with it, so she let it go. The bird was fine, but Casey was confused 😹

Halki sleeps. That bowl is a foot across. She is tiny.

If you saw this cat, you'd think she was a half-grown kitten. Friends, we have had this cat in our house for a year and a half since we scooped her away from the country park, and she has not grown a bit. (Well, she's plumped up, that's it.)

Look at her cute little toe beans! Look at her cute stubby tail! Look at her adorable flame points! Her silky fur! (Pfeh! Spit it out, it gets everywhere.)

Our Lucky is like this. She turns 3 years old on May 3, but is petite. The most she has ever weighed is 8 lbs. People always think she's a kitten, too.

Our outside boy Sandy got very scared during the eclipse, and we had to comfort him. I told him he didn't have to worry about it again since the next one is many years from now.

Has anyone ever investigated how cats choose such gift places and where this comes from? (Sharing the prey?) I would like to learn to understand cats in their behaviour. Do I have to give a mouse back? 😸

My brother had a Siamese/tabby mix named Leo who did this sort of thing. He would leave dead (or not so dead) mice in my brother's shoes, under the rug, by his bed, etc. We were never sure if these were gifts or if Leo was playing pranks on him. Probably the latter 😸

We moved Sandy into the foyer this morning. It's 21F now and it will be 15F tonight. It's 56F in the foyer, which is fine with him. He has a litter pan (which he may or may not use), a bed with a self-warming pad, food, and water. I'm just glad he's safe.

We're enjoying our last nice day for a while. We're about to get hit with cold, possibly icy/snowy weather starting later today. We won't get above freezing again until probably Wednesday. I hate winter.
