Final update on the ridiculously giant zucchini: 45 pounds and first place in our small town fair. All credit to my spouse for figuring out the steps to make this monstrosity happen😀
@Michigander Also: does hot water really freeze faster than cold water?
IIRC it was an astrophysicist during a maths lecture who told us he'd tried the experiment. And yes, the hot water froze first.
Which puzzled him somewhat, not being the outcome he expected.
So he thought about it, and tried again with various variations of the experiment. And came to the conclusion that with his particular freezer it was the water closest to the cooling element that froze first.
OK, Friday night we were looking at the pretty colors and then turned the corner of our house to see this friggin’ thing looming overhead (shown earlier in this thread). We were clearly looking straight into something from space entering earths atmosphere. It only lasted about 5 minutes and dissipated. I think it was a fairly rare “corona” structure, but I have seen them in a fair amount of other photos from Friday. This black and white version is cool. #aurora#photography#nature
@Michigander I was a foster kid, and they sent flyers to the school. A bunch of us filled out the application, and I got chosen - my friends were jealous ;o) It was a life-changing experience for me!
