@NGIZero Thanks for acknowledging my application!

One "but". You wrote

"You've applied to the Mobifree Fund, which is focused on the Android ecosystem."

except https://nlnet.nl/mobifree/ doesn't contain the word . I had an "oh sh-" moment because my project is about .

Who's wrong, the web site or the email? You might want to fix one.

NGIZero,
@NGIZero@mastodon.xyz avatar

@dcz 1/2 NLnet & the larger NGI program are very interested in mobile beyond Android. Mobifree is a pilot led by /e/ foundation, which is an Android distribution - and involving the people responsible for Android based technologies like F-Droid (an alternative Android App Store), and apps like Ltt.rs (email client) and Conversations (instant messaging application). So the grants inside Mobifree are geared towards that platform. For other mobile OS-es there is the (much bigger) NGI0 Commons Fund.

NGIZero,
@NGIZero@mastodon.xyz avatar

@dcz 2/2 If you've submitted to the wrong fund, please contact us by replying to the message you got - and we can make sure your application ends up in the right place. And thanks for pointing this out. We'll add a clarification to our FAQs.

NGIZero,
@NGIZero@mastodon.xyz avatar

@dcz P.s. If your work involves porting any of the other software mentioned on the Mobifree site (https://mobifree.org/#solutions) to other mobile OS-es, or otherwise contribute to these (for instance DeltaChat runs on many platforms), that would of course also be eligible ... But if not just send an e-mail stating you're not sure you are in the right fund and that you are okay with us allocating your proposal to the most suitable fund.

Any experienced C developers among my followers? .

Expat, arguably the world's most popular parser, is understaffed and without funding. As has shown, situations like this are dangerous.

Last month, maintainer Sebastian Pipping put up a plea for help at https://github.com/libexpat/libexpat/blob/R_2_6_2/expat/Changes

(I would help myself, but my C skills barely surpass "Hello, World".)

In a new round of funding 41 projects have received an NGI Zero grant. It is great to see so many people working on free and open source building blocks for the digital commons.

What stands out in this round is the large number of open hardware projects and the continued popularity of memory safe languages.

Here is an overview of the 41 projects: https://nlnet.nl/news/2024/20240212-announcing-projects.html

With thanks to the @EC_NGI European Commission's initiative.

Interesting funding opportunities from @openwebsearcheu. The project has launched two new open calls for grant applications. Researchers and innovators are invited to submit their ideas and can request funding between 50.000 and 150.000 Euro.

The Open Web Search project aims to develop an open European infrastructure for web search. Part of the project's budget is reserved for third-party funding.

The calls are open until April 4, 2024.
