@Uilebheist The previous 4 webinars are indeed hosted on the BBB platform. In what sense are they unusable? Then we can look into remedying it. And you're right that the video's aren't downloadable. Will look into that too.

NGIZero,
@NGIZero@mastodon.xyz avatar

@Uilebheist yes good point about making it downloadable. Will look into that.

NGIZero,
@NGIZero@mastodon.xyz avatar

@Uilebheist in response to your edit: thanks for letting us know what the problem is. It makes sense to provide a download to get around that problem.

NGIZero,
@NGIZero@mastodon.xyz avatar

@Uilebheist That is not on her but in me, Tessel from NLnet who is organising the webinar. So direct your blood boiling to me please.

Hey @etam, good questions. Thanks for raising them. We'll get back to you on Monday so we can add them to the FAQs in one go.

NGIZero,
@NGIZero@mastodon.xyz avatar

Hey @etam The question asks you to describe the wider environment that your project is a part of. F.i. communities that work on projects relevant to yours, groups that will benefit from your solution. The ecosystem also concerns the organisations, people or communities which are part of your dependencies. It then asks to explain how you will interact with them. 1/2

NGIZero,
@NGIZero@mastodon.xyz avatar

@etam With this question we are trying to establish whether you've thought your idea through and if some proposed approach could get actual real-world impact, as in: whether the proposed intervention could succeed. If you have a technology that could perceivably work in theory in a greenfield situation, but you depend on e.g. a gatekeeper with non-aligned interests to take some unlikely action or the cost is too high, then that intervention will likely fail. 2/2

What do we mean when we say Fediverse? In The Multiple Meanings of the Fediverse, @fediversereport explores three different interpretations of the word. Each based on a different founding principle: Community, ActivityPub, or Interoperability.

@wvdraay Thanks, that really means a lot to us. For all who don't know Wytze: he is one of the original folks behind NLnet and among others its financial director from 1989 to 2007 - and winner of a well-deserved NLUUG Lifetime Achievement award. We probably would not be around without him...

Security consultancy Midnight Blue has found 5 vulnerabilities in the radio standard used globally by emergency services, critical infrastructure & government agencies. The vulns named :BURST allow for o.a. realtime decryption & message injection. The researchers reported them 2021, followed by a 1.5 year disclosure process. Mitigation measures were shared with stakeholders and will be made public when the embargo lifts August 9. https://www.midnightblue.nl/tetraburst

Nice interview with @jens of @interpeer, a peer-to-peer networking platform facilitating communication and data exchange without relying on centralised servers or third-party intermediaries.

He explains information-centric networking: "The fundamental premise is that we should stop talking about websites or services to find content on them and start addressing the content directly."

He also gives advice about funding in general and @EC_NGI funding specifically.

@NGIZero are you guys only for EU citizens?

NGIZero,
@NGIZero@mastodon.xyz avatar

Hey @dame, we're not only for European citizens but NGI0 projects do need to have to have a clear European dimension. Here is the eligibility page for NGI0 Entrust: https://nlnet.nl/entrust/eligibility/. For other funds see: https://nlnet.nl/themes/. You might want to keep an eye on that page as other funds may be launched with different eligibility parameters.

NGIZero,
@NGIZero@mastodon.xyz avatar

Hey @dame @pjtn. When you sent in the application form you should've received a copy of your application. (Unless you deselected this at the bottom of https://nlnet.nl/propose/.) Other than that, no correspondence has yet been sent to applicants. (This will be done after the call closes.) If you're uncertain your form was received properly, you can send us the name of your project via DM or use our contact form (https://nlnet.nl/contact/) and I'll check if we received it. Thanks for applying btw :).

Version 5.2 of @peertube is out!
The biggest new feature is remote video transcoding. The idea is to let servers of the platform broadcast the videos, by having the ability to run transcoding tasks on other computers. This makes hosting a PeerTube platform easier, more resilient and cheaper.

Other improvements include mouse-free navigation, RSS feeds for podcasts and documentation.

For more info and technical details see: https://joinpeertube.org/news/release-5.2

I suspect quite a few of you might be keen on open-source 😀

Unfortunately, has a funding problem, and so a lot of people struggle to find time to commit to their projects.

In many regions though (esp the EU) there is money available to fund you doing open source full time! Particularly in a few different areas related to what the EU is calling "Next Generation Internet" () tech.

All these are open for applicants either right now or imminently:

NGIZero,

@VincentTunru @pimterry to add to the list of open source funding, there is also the @sovtechfund. Here's more info https://sovereigntechfund.de/en/.
