What cracks me up is when you go to a restaurant, and they ask if you've been there before, and then they say, "Well, we do things a little different here", and then it's exactly like every other restaurant, but more expensive.

Supper tonight, taking the easy way out and doing hot beef sandwiches.

It's that common dish elsewhere? A hot beef sandwich drowned in gravy?

It's a classic Canadian roadside or service station restaurant meal. Often it's an unattractive whole plate of beige food, if you get them with French fries. lol

We'll be a bit healthier and do it with fresh green beans. A real comfort food vibe tho.

We had a place here in town that made it with fresh daily cooked turkey, homemade bread, and homemade cranberry-orange relish. Sadly they permanently closed during the pandemic.

Need to go work outside swapping tires for an hour, so I would be happy if the sun would go away like the forecast said it would.

We've had a decent roll going for about a month, so can probably make it through May as well. But we have the luxury of good access to alternatives in our 'hood.

We have that Food Basics at Hampton Park, the very good Produce Depot at Maitland, and a Bulk Barn at Carlingwood. Those can cover pretty much everything we need, and a comfortable biking distance on nice days too.

The ones that will directly pay for the boycott is the employees. If there is a lack of customers, cashier hours will be cut back as well those stocking shelves. They're the ones that will punished.

Had a visit to the dentist today. I did get a chance to ask the dentist if they had any patients yet under the new Canada Dental Care Plan. They don't, and are planning to wait until September.

Ontario dentists are upset that the CDCP won't adopt the ODA's fee recommendations.

There's always going to be a tension between insurers, public or private...trying to keep fees low...and the dentists, trying to keep fees high.

Welcome to the world of every person of disability in Ontario. Our benefits offer BASIC dental ... but not many dentists will take us for the same reason - a lower fee that takes 6-12 months to get paid for the Ontario government.

Mid-aft shop avoids the busy times. It is pretty good – not as nice as evenings though which is very relaxing.

Lately patronizing a place called Food Basics who seem to have improved their selection lately! Plus predatory grocer has been gouging us so much.

Most noticeable benefit beyond prices is the ACTUAL staff in the aisles stocking shelves! Haven't seen that in YEARS. Loblaws uses after-hours workers. Getting actual help finding stuff is so brilliant!

Ross, our FoodBasic is great ... except for their produce. Our store seems to sell produce that on the cusp of going bad. And I stopped buy their broccoli because it always seemed to be infested with bugs or worms.
If you have a FreshCo (subsidiary of Sobeys) near you, try them. Produce is fresh, cheap, and a wide variety of both traditional and international items.

2 years ago I did a price study with Walmart, FreshCo, Metro, Independent, and FoodBasics. All products had to be the exact same product - size, packaging, etc.
Cheapest was Walmart by a few bucks. Next was FreshCo, then FoodBasics. Most expensive was Metro with Independent a few dollars cheaper, but the difference between FreshCo and Independent was just under $50.
Don't know about others but $50 is big chunk of my budget. And that was 2 years ago ...
I should do another one.

So in total our trip was about 320KM across the country and we only came cross 2 US-style trucks!

They immediately stand out since they are just massive, loud and look like rolling crap

We laughed at them like many people do here :bloblaugh:

One had to have super low self-esteem to drive such a "look at my balls" truck here in the Netherlands
