Among people not hospitalized when they got covid, the risks of most long-covid health conditions became nonstatistically significant after 2 years, however substantial risk remains for several major organ systems such as gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal and neurologic systems (Aug 2023).

How will defederating prevent Meta from gathering data? Google doesn’t even have an official Fediverse server and they gather data. You can see all they gather through a mere search.

Even without ActivityPub, Meta can gather data. They can just collect via RSS if they want. So much content is out there in the open.

Here’s the scary thing about Meta. You don’t need to have an account for them to track you. They can build shadow profiles on you based on pixels.

This is the reality.

That said, people who use Meta products would be better off Meta, and they need a way to migrate away.

I’m not saying anyone should federate with Meta. That’s not what I’m suggesting.

But what needs to happen, though, is that folks who are on #Barcelona realize there’s a greater Fediverse that they can access—which would ideally be the catalyst to leave Meta-owned services.

How to do this? I don’t know. And this is in part because we don’t yet entirely know what Barcelona will be.
