@WhyNotZoidberg A lot of folks fixate on parking, and the perception that bike lanes interfere with parking. What few protected bike lanes we have in Baltimore are parking-protected.

Some reasons I prefer biking in snow to driving in snow:

  1. I can see my tires and the road just in front of them, and thus more effectively avoid ice.

  2. If I skid out, I am far less likely to kill another person.

  3. If the snow is bad enough, I can always hop off and walk my bike along.

It'd be a slam dunk if not for all the road salt and cars sliding around.

I biked 4,042 km in 2023. 44.1% of that was for recreation; 55.9% was for utility (with 32.0% for my commute). Almost all of this was on my Raleigh Record Ace.

I spent $417.37 on , including building new bike stands for my office. That's $0.103/km, or $0.185/km if you only count utility cycling. Compare to about $0.40/km driving!
