Sunak airbrushed from launch of Scottish Tories’ general election campaign

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/live/2024/may/28/tories-triple-lock-plus-planned-tax-cut-pensioners-labour-rishi-sunak-general-election

Douglas Ross barely mentions Westminster or Conservative policies and does not say PM’s name in speech kicking off campaign

I am surprised they are allowing Ross to show his face quite frankly.

@Wen must be bad if Ross is above Sunak!

How much alone time vs socializing do you need?

For me there are a few people who are usually equalizing, and I can just be around them, so I won't count that. But generally, I find about 3 times a week, I'm game for socializing. A day in between to rest is usually nice, but the larger the gathering or if we go somewhere particularly noisy or I'm meeting new people that involves more effort, and my social battery empties sooner. I'm very curious where everyone else falls on this!

Thebratdragon,
@Thebratdragon@mastodon.scot avatar

@dan613 @AnhedoniaIsReal @RickiTarr I am not lonely, I talk to strange people on social media, my cats, my stuffies, the birds, squirrels and hedgepigs in the garden....

Okay, hear me out. A Baking Show, but no one gets eliminated. The contestants help and learn from each other throughout the series and at the end of it they vote on who takes the top prize. Cooperation not Competition.

Thebratdragon,
@Thebratdragon@mastodon.scot avatar

@NunavutBirder excellent show, but lacks the faux drama TV audiences want.

Better idea, cooking show with 6 candidates and 12 experts, each week the candidates vote off the least helpful expert.

Hive mind, it is sunday, so I am allowed a takeaway (only do it one day a week so I do not have to cook every day living alone).

Do I fancy a fish supper, a pizza or a nice chinese?

@PaulNickson @TCMuffin @spytfyre @Man there was a famous exercise in the states, where the RN(I think, might have been a RN/RAF split) bucs bombed a target 30 feet above them (they could lob a bomb, don't ask me how) so that in the entire attack run through the mesa canyons they stayed below the US radar.

Thebratdragon,
@Thebratdragon@mastodon.scot avatar

@PaulNickson @TCMuffin @spytfyre @Man almost as good as the 1962 exercise where the US stated, nothing could reach them without being spotted and intercepted, until 3 vulcans circled new york. Having flown and been refuelled over the atlantic at an average height of 20 feet.

Thebratdragon,
@Thebratdragon@mastodon.scot avatar

@TCMuffin @PaulNickson @spytfyre @Man victor k3 refuellers from ascension that needed refuelling themselves.

Thebratdragon,
@Thebratdragon@mastodon.scot avatar

@BashStKid @TCMuffin @PaulNickson @spytfyre @Man yep, 2 of them had wave damage to their wing edges. Spotting planes at sea level is a nightmare for ground based radar.

Thebratdragon,
@Thebratdragon@mastodon.scot avatar

@PaulNickson @BashStKid @TCMuffin @spytfyre @Man british (and aus/nz) pilots had a reputation for flying low enough under carriage could have been deployed.

Thebratdragon,
@Thebratdragon@mastodon.scot avatar

@PaulNickson @BashStKid @TCMuffin @spytfyre @Man depending on the combat conditions, life saving.

Thebratdragon,
@Thebratdragon@mastodon.scot avatar

@PaulNickson @BashStKid @TCMuffin @spytfyre @Man best moment was during perestroika, USSR air force general was handing something over and giving a presentation at duxford, so 1990'ish. Walks over to the vulcan on the runway (all 3 Vs and a b52 on display for this). And stokes the undercarriage and in accented english, I am glad the cold war is over, this plane kept me awake at night.

No higher accolade.

Thebratdragon,
@Thebratdragon@mastodon.scot avatar

@NormanDunbar @PaulNickson @BashStKid @TCMuffin @spytfyre @Man it didn't matter, they didn't want the runway out of action, they wanted the argentines to know everything in their country was in reach of heavy bombers.... so don't escalate....

Thebratdragon,
@Thebratdragon@mastodon.scot avatar

@PaulNickson @BashStKid @NormanDunbar @TCMuffin @spytfyre @Man been there, done that.

Used to live in Hereford just up the road from Sterling Lines (SAS home camp).

The night Diana died, helicopters swooping in low (chinooks are loud at 50ft), every truck on the base revving engines and deploying, and led in bed thinking, WTF has happened!

I used to babysit a lot, and I was kind of famous for getting kids to try foods they normally wouldn't. I was never pushy about it, just included them in the shopping/harvesting/cooking process, and asked them to try a little bite of everything, and to remember that your tastebuds change as you age, so keep on trying stuff.

This backfired on me occasionally though. Once as an adventure, we went to a Japanese restaurant, and I ordered the kiddos some Katsu (who doesn't love something fried with dippy sauce), and got myself a plate of sushi rolls and sashimi. Well, since I always asked them to try one bite of something new, they looked at me expectantly, so I let them try a bit of each. Turns out they were all in for sushi, and those little nerds ate most of my plate, and then they always wanted to go. Kids, I don't have sushi money every day!

Thebratdragon,
@Thebratdragon@mastodon.scot avatar

@kelvin0mql @RickiTarr my first experience with sushi was 1985'ish. Employer funded office lunch at a very posh place back of covent garden. I was 18/19.

Group of slightly rowdy blokes knowing what they wanted (despite not having a clue).

Me I politely the asked japanese server what he recommended as I had no clue. Rest of the table got what they asked for, I kept getting taster plates of all kinds of things, and a topped up saki jug.

Fave was the saki marinated salmon....

I’ve finally been hit by the UK-wide medication shortages exacerbated by Brexit. My pharmacist can’t get my antipsychotic. The GP surgery blithely suggests that I just switch to another drug until he can. That is… really not how psychotropic meds work. I’ve got the community mental health team receptionist running round trying to get a prescription for this drug from my psychiatrist to be filled at the hospital pharmacy - IF they have it. Stress!

Good morning fellow Mastos and hello to Tuesday. We are back home in Yorkshire after a long day driving yesterday. Looks like it might rain which comes as a surprise after the great weather we had up north.

I hope you all have a perfect day today. Remember to have fun, no matter what you are up to. Stay safe.

Today's random photo is from last week in Buckpool. It makes me wonder what happened to the cyclists!
