If the British government recovered fragments of the sword Excalibur and decided to have it re-forged for nation-building reasons, how would they go about it?
@cstross two feasibility studies, one by Capita, the other by PM's brother in law. After £200m spent nothing gets done and sword gets put in storage because there is no display spaces available due to museum budget cuts
Finished the main Luofu story on #HonkaiStarRail this weekend - it was neat and I like the whole thing around Dan Heng, and the divination driven intrigue in the primary plot.
Still characters were written worse than in Belobog - that story felt incredibly personal and gave quite a lot of time to Bronya and others to change and grow. Luofu had none of that and it seems the wider consensus is that it's a weaker chapter.
@britt Pistol Whip is great fun, very much feels like a John Wick music video simulator. Half Life Alyx remains absolutely incredible and I'm not sure anything else came close to this level of polish and sheer wow factor.
I looked a little bit at the official results from last Sunday's parliamentary election in #Poland (https://wybory.gov.pl/sejmsenat2023/en/sejm/wynik/pl), and while the official website isn't great in terms of visualization, the data was still quite interesting when I took a look. As with many other countries, there seems to be a stark city-countryside divide in politics. At the same time, and I found that noteworthy, there also seems to be a certain East-West divide.
But yeah the major divide is mostly rural vs cities, in a bit of a feedback loop with education/income/age. There are also some interesting historical trends amongst voters abroad who really mobilised this year.
Spoiler-free #Ahsoka takes: the show is promising, the casting in particular is amazing. The whole thing very much feels like Rebels s5 so far, and I will be honestly content if that remains the case.
@joshhunt I think a lot of people got caught up in very recent surface level shit that reduced this whole thing to a sports team rivalry.
At the end of the day one company owning the HW platform, locked up storefront, publishers and developers is not good for anyone - except execs and shareholders.
I remember seeing many complaints about low & alcohol free beer being shite, but having tried quite a lot of what's available in retail recently, I am very pleasantly surprised. It's been wonderful to have so many really good options when I don't want to or can't have the percents in the system. Particularly Corona Cero and Asahi 0% blew me away (though I was already quite fond of the normal versions).
Anyone's got any good recommendations for UK stores/pubs?
We have thriving, growing communities, with donation-driven funding, no algorithmic engagement farming, no adverts, and no vested financial interests, and "journalists" deem #fediverse a failure. I am not surprised, it's all as expected in #capitalism, but I am still blown away by it every time.
I love how #Orkney (and #Shetland) independence gets trotted out on a regular to "gotcha" Scottish independence. London trying to stir shit, divide and rule, as usual.
BUT I am aware of the very real issues the islands are dealing with. Independent Scotland or not, they definitely should be afforded a more autonomous/special status than ordinary council areas. And fix the fucking ferries, eh?
#Beehaw's aggressive defederation move is rather eyebrow raising in the wider context of how #Fediverse works; I cannot help but feel it will either rejoin soon-ish, or start declining as a community.
Not my circus, not my monkeys; but watching the last week of #Reddit migration has been fascinating. I fully assume it is very similar to the #Twitter exodus of last autumn...
I have kinda thrown my hat in with #kbin - though I am quite averse to putting all my eggs in one basket by now. Wish I had a useful skillset to actually be able to volunteer to help Ernest build up the capacity, alas - I last touched PHP about 10 years ago...
