I’ve had a lot of questions about Reddit’s planned AMA today and “What if they…”, so I added a section to the bottom of my post to answer that and thought I’d share it here too.
Well, looks like Reddit pulled the plug a little early. Apollo started crashing, but I just manually revoked my token and it looks like it fixes the crashing, but no more Reddit access haha. Those folks are fun to the very end! 😛
@christianselig I keep reflexively clicking the Apollo icon and getting sad all over again. Thanks for the amazing app and I wish you all the best with your next endeavors.
I just released a really important Apollo update that adds the ability for users with remaining subscription time left to decline an automatic refund. Devs pay refunds out of pocket, and this will be about $250K, so I thank you for your consideration. ❤️
Also, this update includes an amazing "Goodbye Apollo Wallpaper Set” for your phone, tablet, or desktop, created by outrageously talented Apollo icon designers. You can unlock the pack with a donation that helps with refund costs. 🙂
@christianselig thanks for making #reddit usable with #apolloapp ❤️ I’m sad to see it go but looking forward to what comes next. When people/companies show you what they are, believe them.
I have a fun idea to commission some of the artists who did Apollo icons to create some really cool final Apollo wallpapers to remember the app by. Is this something you'd pay a few bucks for, where the proceeds would go toward Apollo's refund fees?
Choosing a travel backpack is really hard, and I still haven't found one I love, so mostly for my own reference I wrote a long post with thoughts on pretty much every travel backpack out there https://christianselig.com/2024/04/choosing-a-backpack-is-hard/
Here's a little sneak peek for what would have been Apollo for iPad. You have stackable panes allowing you to easily view and move through multiple things at once (or go full screen!), Gallery Mode, and sections are moved to the side, with support for opening new tabs
The gesture system felt so great and natural (inspired by
Loren Brichter’s 2011 Tweetie for iPad). Really nice physics and weight, and automatically adapted to iPhone size. Took so long to get right. Quick demo:
The app was still rough in many areas, but I loved where it was going
Ok, I take this as proof that I live in a simulation and my instance is currently experience a kernel panic.
There is simply no other explanation for everything that has happened in the last couple of years AND Elon Musks complete meltdown being considered as a prime example of great business strategies and transformation. That's just the cherry on top.
Dang, I want a new MagSafe Dock and the Twelve South one looks awesome, but when nothing is docked it disturbs me on a deeply personal level that the cord just hangs out
iPad feature I'd love: deep sleep. I find whenever I go a few days or a week between using an iPad, it's often dead or almost dead. An auto-deep sleep mode after 24 hours of non-use would be awesome, even if it took 5 seconds or so to wake back up
@christianselig I disabled all background activity on my iPad and its night and day how much longer the battery lasts. I figured I never care to get notifications from it while it is locked, and I always check things like email first on my phone, so I have no real need for it. Worth trying imo.
@christianselig I’ve got a handy shortcut I set to auto run on my iPad when it drops below 30%. Sets low power mode and creates a reminder to charge the ipad (which syncs and fires a min later. Then see the notification on some other device).
