It’s me. Hi! I’m the problem, it’s me. I contain multitudes: aspiring writer, amateur photographer, tech enthusiast, armchair sociologist, recovering alcoholic, Trekkie, squishy human. Too soft for all of it. 🇵🇭 born, 🇺🇸 made. Queer and proud.

“Order must prevail.” That phrase alone betrays so much. You may protest, but it must be in the place we designate and in the manner we prescribe. And anyway, it’s useless, since I’m not changing my mind. The status quo must be upheld at all costs.

Conveniently, he and many others overlook the fact that the violent “outside agitators” they blame are often the police. The chaos stems not from the protests, but from the response.

It’s shocking, but perhaps not surprising, that Biden has lived through multiple eras of student protest—and seemingly hasn’t learned anything along the way.

More on the conflation of antisemitism and criticism of Israel, from @TheRaDR. Alas, the thread is on Bluesky, but it’s worth a read.

It’s all too obvious how The New York Times feels about the campus protests sweeping the world. They’re not even trying to hide it.

I can’t say I’m surprised. So much about the NY Times makes sense when you know it’s a paper by the powerful, for the powerful.

@Jonathanglick I haven’t, but I certainly will. Thank you for bringing it to my attention!

I keep thinking about how, in 2003, I was a student protester against the Iraq War. Despite the government’s insistence, despite the media’s complicity, we persevered. We knew what the war was really about, and we knew it would end in disaster. And sadly, we were right.

Students were right about civil rights and Vietnam in the 60s, students were right about apartheid in the 80s, students were right about Iraq in the aughts, and students are right about Gaza today. Listen to them.

I have an Apple Watch Series 5 running watchOS 10 point whatever-the-latest-release-is. Every now and then, I see the red dot denoting new notifications at the top of the screen, but can’t pull down to see them. The only way to fix this is to reboot the watch.

Anyone else experiencing the same issue? Or is my watch just too fucking old?

I tell every person from Singapore who moves to the US that they should be prepared to hear Americans refer to ‘Kerrygold’ as ‘fancy butter’ since that’s just our supermarket normal butter

@skinnylatte Personally, I miss Anchor butter (from NZ), which is what I remember as a kid in Manila. Didn’t realize how good I had it then!

Just arrived at the church. I’m carrying my father’s ashes. Pray for me, I guess?

My nephew and niece are still adorably smol. Enjoying it while it lasts!

digichelle,
@digichelle@hachyderm.io avatar

What’s funny to me is, the niblings seem so much bigger in pictures. But when I see them in person? My niece is barely taller than my knees, and my nephew is about as tall as my legs. And they have such tiny faces!

And their energy density, oh my goodness. My nephew alone could power a small city on his own. That kid keeps going, and going, and going…

I just wish my dad was around to see this. He loved the grandkids so, so much. He had a difficult time as a father, but being a grandfather was second nature to him. And the grandkids, they loved him back.

I wonder if they understand that he’s gone for good. The older one, maybe. The younger one, probably not. I just hope she remembers him when she’s older.

The funeral is tomorrow. I still have a eulogy to write. Hardest thing I’ve ever written, by far. How do you celebrate a life in just a few short minutes?

Then there’s the matter of getting up in front of all those people and saying those words, while trying not to completely break down. There will be tears, that’s for sure, but I don’t want to lose it completely.

I’m also the one who will carry his ashes. And for the rest of my life, I’ll carry him in one way or another.

I know there’s an extension that replaces “woke” with “respectful” across the web. I’d love one that replaces “anti-woke” with “fucking ignorant”.

Seriously, that whole “debate” is enraging. We’re really out here treating bigotry as a valid political position? Miss me with that shit.

digichelle,
@digichelle@hachyderm.io avatar

I would like to point out that the editors of The New York Times, who say bothsideing bigotry is “courageous”, are cis, straight, and white as New York snow. Fuck ’em forever and ever, amen.

digichelle,
@digichelle@hachyderm.io avatar

Just once, I want a political candidate to say, “If you call yourself ‘anti-woke’, fuck you, you’re an ignorant piece of shit and deserve nothing but misery.” I would vote for that person SO HARD, and then I’d get freaky with them until the break of dawn. (That is, if they’re down with it. It’s not really consent unless it’s enthusiastic consent!)

What's one of the silliest domain names you own? Mine is legit-elephant.lol and there's an entire story behind it. Some of you were even here for this!

C'mere and sit down, I'll tell you the story of the fateful night in the fediverse where Elon Musk flipped his lid and the entire fediverse flipped a middle finger to him.

The story begins during the winter holidays of 2022, back when hachyderm lived on Kris Nova's servers

It was a different world then, wasn't it?

digichelle,

@hazelweakly I remember this! Wasn’t this when Elon Musk tried to block all outgoing links to Mastodon servers on Twitter, and you spun up a redirection service?
