Money doesn't buy happiness is something rich people say, because they can't figure out why people don't like them.

@RickiTarr @bigzaphod Similarly, “A rising tide lifts all boats.” Is something rich people say because they have boats.

The rumored foldable Mac:

  • 14-15" Mac will unfold into 20" display
  • M5 processor
  • As soon as end of 2025

And maybe NO keyboard/trackpad?

Not getting this. foldability is for portability, yeah? But no keyboard/trackpad means you need to bring your own? Or add bulk with a keyboard case?

It'll be interesting to see how this all unfolds (sorry).

@davemark Makes me wonder if this is one of those root-out-the-leakers false stories…

So there's always the debate between QWERTY and alphabetical keyboards, but everyone is missing the obvious way to solve this disagreement.

There's no reason the alphabet HAS to be in that order. It's arbitrary, and English would work almost completely the same if the alphabet was in a different order, you know?

So, let's just put the alphabet in QWERTY order!
It'd solve all our problems from Q to M.

donkey,
@donkey@mastodon.nz avatar

@foone @bigzaphod Hex might need a re-work being 0-9+A-F. Or would it… 0-9+Q-Y?

@matt It’ll be interesting to see if Windows on ARM even takes off this time - they’ve tried many times before and it hasn’t yet.

Where do you live and how do you feel about it?

Obviously, don't tell me exactly where you live, no actual addresses please! You can be as vague as you like.

I live in Central Missouri in the U.S.

Pros:

This is an absolutely beautiful place, green rolling hills, lots of rivers, lakes, ponds, and natural springs, cool caves to explore.

Lots of farming here, so great access to quality fruits, vegetables, meat, eggs, and dairy.

It's relatively inexpensive to live here compared with other states, because it's a "flyover".

I'm close enough to three major cities, that it's an easy day trip, and I'm about halfway to anywhere in the U.S.

We have one of the best Conservation departments in the U.S. and this is one of the few things that is a bipartisan issue. Lots of awesome nature programs that are free or cheap, state parks, conservation areas, bird watching, hunting, boating, foraging available to everyone.

Cons:

Yeah, it's a big one, it is a RED STATE, while a lot of the cities are blue, there is a large rural population, that votes red. Abortion is not legal here. People often vote against their own self interest.

While I'm not against responsible gun ownership, lots of people aren't responsible, and people have access to guns that definitely should not.

We have very few employee protections here, while the cost of living is relatively low compared with other places, it's taken years to get to a $12 minimum wage, and it's still not enough.

@RickiTarr I live in Palmerston North, NZ. It’s a great small provincial city (probably more like a rural town in the US, pop circa 90K). We’re about 2 hours north of the captial, Wellington - as well as 2 hours south from the amazing central plateau and its snowy mountains and the biggest lake in NZ, Taupō.

The best thing about Palmy is the my wife lives here. I really like her. In fact (leans forward and whispers), I do believe I’m in love. It’ll be our 29th anniversary soon.

I was sharing my screen in a meeting yesterday and I was comparing two websites.

At a certain point I created a split view in Arc to see them side by side. I had to stop the meeting to explain how I did that.

A few minutes later I flipped the left/right windows and they demanded I stop the meeting to explain that move.

That’s a good UI 👌

@matt Interesting - pretty sure Safari can do the first trick, but I don’t think I’ve ever tried the second. Very cool!

If you could wave a magic wand and make one of these things disappear forever, which would it be? ATM I’m leaning towards No. 2 sadly 🤢

donkey,
@donkey@mastodon.nz avatar

@gedeonm Yeah, that sucks. Just spent a week hobbling around home/hardly moving because of my back. Would be nice to have the fitness app say “hey, you’re not moving much and seem to be unwell - wanna pause your streaks?”

Hope you feel better soon, friend.

As I return to Mastodon, I realize that I have no idea who is here, or who I should be following. Any recommendations for people y'all think I need to pay attention to?

donkey,
@donkey@mastodon.nz avatar

@niclake @matt Actual examples though? I’d start with @lisamelton and @RickiTarr - they seem to know everyone

Politicians’ salaries should be index linked by law to ordinary people’s income levels. It can be set at a higher levels, but it should rise (or fall} in line with everyone else.

@billbennett They should receive minimum wage.

donkey,

@billbennett I was figuring it would mean a quick rise in the minimum wage, becoming an actual living wage.

But I am probably being too optimistic!

Clearly the + community own time machines. How else do you explain the rainbow agenda starting in the book of Genesis!

Seriously though, let’s get rid of all Zebra Crossings and replace them with Rainbow ones.

@vik Ah, yes, that would make sense.

Oooo - Reflective Rainbows!! 🌈 😃
