The difference in experience between Google Maps and Apple Maps, 12 years on, is kinda staggering 👀 I would never use Google Maps in Ireland except for looking up postal codes using our Eircode system (which Apple doesn’t license)

Bought this in Books on iPad because I absolutely loved Prince of Persia on my old 20 MHz 386, and only 1/5 or so in to it, it’s clear that for me that this is the most impactful comic I’ve read since the 1986 The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller which at the time completely changed how I looked at comics. Absolutely love this format of storytelling. ❤️

Over on twitter there has been a bit of a back and forth on C# and Rust simple json server performance.

I know C# has gotten a ton of performance tuning on the stack, and was wondering if Swift was up to the task.

I have never done Swift on the Server before, but the results are impressive:

Swift: 64k req/sec
.NET: 61k req/sec

Some folks asked about memory usage after running the test with "hey", everything on Release Mode:

.NET 8: 152 MB
Swift/Vapor: 24 MB
Swift/Hummingbird: 23 MB

https://tirania.org/tmp/test-humming.tar.gz

Updated Hummingbird values (see replies):

Hummingbird: 52,000 res/sec and 16 MB of memory usage.

there is a guy, who says that Swift on Windows is more complete than Swift on Linux. let that sink in 🤔

compnerd,

@finestructure Yes, the VS installation is still required. That is what provides the headers for ucrt/vcruntime. VS then doubles up as a means for installing the Windows SDK which is available standalone. The toolchain distribution includes everything else (compilers, linkers, debuggers, IDE tools, etc).
