Is it just me, or are there more text scams than ever? Woke up to three separate texts - all seem to be phishing texts re: bank activity, etc. I'd never click on a link on such a message. If the scam states it's from my bank, I check my account or call my bank, but I wonder how many people click these links.

@dancinyogi The worst one I think right now is "Your order is waiting for your confirmation." I don't order things and I know I'm not ordering that thing! Some people have no memory or sense.

I'll kick things off. One of my best qualities is resilience. Something knocks me down, and I'm like a roly-poly toy. I get back up immediately. Rejection or failure - it doesn't matter. I examine what happened, get up, and am off to the races.

I wish people knew how many hobbies (or at least hobby communities) they push people away from by aggressively talking down to people who are also interested. It’s not even necessarily intentional gatekeeping. It’s just making people who want to enjoy that interest feel like idiots by trying to prove they’re smart constantly and not having a two-way conversation. Like ripping something apart out of their hands to “do it better” without asking. It happens all the time.

@hacks4pancakes This is true. It happens to most people who show off their work in public and then told, "Oh, my daughter can do that, she's only 5" or likewise, "I can buy that at Walmart for $4.00." How insulting people are when they want to bring others down. People suck.

Ok, Fediverse. This is a tough one.

I saw a short film years ago, maybe in the early 2000s. I was explaining it to someone earlier. I have tried off and on to find it, but I have been unable, so I'm putting it to film buffs who may be familiar with it. It's called "The Boundary" with Alexander Siddig (from DS9). The director is Julius Onah.

@ben Isn't it odd that the exact same states are also banning abortion as well?
I think it's the high number of Christian fascists in them. I wonder if anyone has ever done a study of that metric?

If you're rolling your eyes at the number of political posts in your feed, keep in mind that we're at the tipping point of authoritarianism here in the US (and other countries). For example, a political party is deciding whether women live or die in childbirth. The stakes are high, and we'll post about it.

I try to balance my posts with politics and lighter stuff. When it's a politics-heavy day, that balance may tilt toward the political end. But I"m not going to ignore reality altogether.

@dancinyogi True enough, but a lot of people are in denial and don't want to be confronted with the results of their ignorance.
Because if you ignore reality it's going to bite you on the ass. Like the debt ceiling limit talks-if they fail, we go into default, all hell breaks loose. Millions of people will be directly affected, but they don't know it yet.

I just got a very obviously sincere and thoughtful message from a stranger telling me, in essence, that the way I express my opinions and thoughts pisses them off. It wasn't a troll. It's clear I really bother them, and I get the impression that they speak for a lot of people here.

I'm sorry. I'm not likely to change. But I'm really not trying to provoke anyone.

@mattblaze I haven't been accused of pissing anyone off, but I'm sure that I do-but I personally do not give a righteous damn.
I express myself and try to be civilized. My critics, such as they are, should do the same.
But you don't piss me off. I don't take offense easily, even with personal opinions-but if you talk and act like a white supremacist, racist, sexist or any other uncivilized person I will be offended.

@ElizabethLeeCo I've got an account on the Elk instance, does moving my account to that work? Or is the Elk just another form of Mastodon? Consider me confused, and how bad is the issue?
I just read about SDF being its' own instance (one of the oldest in existence) and so I will stay with the weirdos like me.

I'd read about the 'open invitation' for users to congregate on Social (and with the usual problems attached) and did not think that I would have to migrate myself. SDF is one of the older instances, from what I understand so it is also pretty stable. You did clarify the situation. Thanks! Have a great day!

@Albatross Our political system is not working for the people it was supposed to represent-the citizens of this country-however, due to gerrymandering and corruption the GOP has become the party that makes or breaks the rules with impunity. They're the ones who pass 'pro-gun' legislation and have the NRA funding them.
Bring them down, the NRA down and the gun manufacturers to heel it would help a lot. Strikes only do so much then people forget them.Taking down the party that is doing works.
