Turns out Godot is pretty cool! It’s the only game engine I’ve used so far where things are where I expected them to be. Worth checking out.

I just completed "Complete Godot 2D: Develop Your Own 2D Games Using Godot 4" by GameDev.tv, on Udemy.

The retro handheld market is bizarre. The companies make good hardware but the firmware is barely functional and does not perform well.
It's up to the players to make and update their own firmware. Once properly setup they are absolutely wonderful, though!

One of the nice things about mastodon is that there's no algorithm so in times of crisis I can just stop posting for a while without having to fear that my future posts will be penalized in terms of visibility because of a period of inactivity

I still don't know how to use mastodon, I feel like I'm only here to share my stuff and read replies, and less so any kind of discovery of following and engaging with other people's stuff

it seems like there's only a chronological feed of those you follow (which I usually don't like because it skews to the most active people), and a generic feed for your instance (pretty much useless), but no algorithmic discovery thing?

Feel like there's a slowly increasing number of sequels to successful indie games from 10+ years ago made by tiny teams/bedroom coders and I wonder if that's reflective of it being materially harder the last several years to successfully launch indie games, so veteran indie devs are going back for sequels to previous successes to have name recognition buoy them

Yes. It is harder to stand out. If there is already brand recognition it's easier to get word of mouth going and it makes it easier to get investment.
I am not interested in making sequels, though.

You can check it for yourself by pressing the "Buy" button on the bundle, which gives you a text box to pick a value, and some price suggestions.

I know the world is on fire, but forgive me venting this one pet peeve:

Lists of top X things of all time.

I hate these lists, and when I was on Ludology, I made sure to never to do an episode with this as the subject. It's easy content (I hate that word, and use it here spitefully), but it just creates pseudo-discourse about arbitrary and meaningless rankings.

Plus, no mortal being can create a list of anything all-time on a subject that is still active. Time is not over yet!
