Fitness watch I use to monitor vitals since my ER adventure the other week: omg you're so stressed, all the time!

I mean for one yeah, literally had a life threatening thing happen and am still recovering, can't imagine why that would be stressful.

But also this led me to learn how these stress trackers work, and the relation to ADHD! 🧵

giflian,
@giflian@techhub.social avatar

@danderson interesting timing of my seeing this thread, I'm learning of how adderall is probably not the right med for me because my heart rate goes into dangerous territory when I do cardio (and has for years but I didn't realize before).

giflian,
@giflian@techhub.social avatar

@danderson I started ADHD meds in early 2020, and there really wasn't the infrastructure then to monitor me properly for obvious reasons, and I can't get a family doctor where I live.

Adderall gave me the best improvement in concentration compared to others, and because my resting heart rate and blood pressure were low to begin with, it just put them into normal/good levels (essentially increasing all the numbers by 10). But then with exercise it's too much.

Heat pumps and induction ranges are two strong examples of products that are better environmentally and better products than their gas/oil competitors, for almost everybody. (EVs will get there, but they’re not there yet.)

Because carbon emissions are free, it’s important that low-emission new products be clearly better than the polluting status quo. It’s a high bar, it’s not fair, but I’m glad we have heat pumps and induction ranges as a model.

@timbray @glennf @waldoj @nlpbot When my strata held the AGM 2 years ago to vote on whether to upgrade the electricals in our 10yo building's parkade to allow for fast EV chargers, it would've put me out $2800 and that wouldn't have even given me a charger for a potential future car, so I voted no. I still don't know why they didn't give an option to set up a few fast chargers in the visitor parking. A lot of the parking spots, including mine, are empty

giflian,
@giflian@techhub.social avatar

@glennf yeah, we've just converted another parkade storage room into bike storage (though I keep mine in my own storage unit), which is nice to see

Fellow COVID cautious folks in BC... did you know we can get another covid booster?

They are only sending out invites to specific ppl, but ANYONE who wants a booster is welcome to call and book.

http://www.bccdc.ca/health-info/diseases-conditions/covid-19/covid-19-vaccine/getting-a-vaccine

"Anyone else who feels they would benefit from a spring vaccine can contact the call centre to book a vaccine at 1-833-838-2323. You may also be able to walk into a pharmacy, where the vaccine is available."

Fellow Canadians, did you know there's a movement to boycott Loblaws for the month of May to protest their profiteering?

I've had more energy than usual (the usual being low) the last couple days and I don't know if it's random, hormonal or that I did my first ever iron infusion over a week ago.

I worked a full 8 hours yesterday, and had to force myself to stop and close the laptop. Normally this doesn't happen outside of an incident (where I'm fuelled by adrenaline).

I now have to be careful that I don't forget I'm chronically ill and go and run lots of errands and burn myself out.

GeorgiaOnMyMind, to random
@GeorgiaOnMyMind@zeroes.ca avatar

Just had an interesting conversation with my sister who informed me while she’s been more careful than she otherwise would have been because of me, she figures she’s good because she’s lucky that if she’s had Covid, she’s either had it asymptomatically or she has been able to fight it off.

I gently told her that it could (cuz I didn’t want to argue with would) still do damage if it’ll asymptomatic and it’s 40% of the population that gets it asymptomatically. She had no clue.

She’s also had memory issues of late (mostly minor but definitely noticeable by me).

She’s intelligent. But if someone doesn’t have immediate consequences or empathy and caring for others they are just going to continue to live in the before times because “it’s not affecting them”. 😔

giflian,
@giflian@techhub.social avatar

@GeorgiaOnMyMind when I had brain fog from undiagnosed hypothyroidism, I didn't recognize it as brain fog; I just decided that I'd always been slow to learn things (I don't remember now how I reconciled that with having been an A student in high school and uni). I only realized it after I started medication and my brain turned on again.

So it wouldn't surprise me if people with cognitive or memory issues aren't aware of it.

I almost don’t want to link to the article even though it’s a pay wall bypass link, so they won’t get any money anyway. But for me, the New York Times has done so much damage with horrible reporting, analysis and outright misinformation that I personally canceled our lifelong subscription to it not long ago. I know why there are chronic absences post 2020 and so do you. See previous posts https://archive.md/2024.03.29-191726/https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2024/03/29/us/chronic-absences.html

This is funny. Apparently there's no Canadian data on why lots of kids are missing school a lot more since 2020. They mention a boy named Connor with long covid who now gets sick a lot and suffers from fatigue, but kind of leaves that as an anecdote. The article then hypothesizes things like, attitudes towards school have changed since the lockdowns? Something something mental health?

Canada not having data on school absenteeism is a problem, but why speculate as if the answer can't be that most are home sick?

@Brad I was thinking yesterday how there are articles like this on mainstream media and the vast, vast majority of people ignore it or decide it doesn't apply to them.

I had brain fog from undiagnosed hypothyroidism around 2010 and I wasn't aware of it until I started taking meds and it improved. I'd spent a couple years just forgetting I used to be intelligent. I wonder how much that's happening now.
