An Indigenous elder and her dog need housing for about a week in the face of the incoming bad weather. This is from linda dot black dot elk on instagram. I don't know her personally or live nearby but wanted to share here in case anyone has options they can pass on to her. I can DM any contact info to linda from my instagram account if you don't have an account. https://www.instagram.com/p/C4tcJNmSJ03/ should be a direct link to the post.

    My parents cut part of my dick off when I was a baby and now I tuck it between my legs voluntarily to wear certain pants and that’s a HUGE issue for them. Very normal

    janisf,
    @janisf@mstdn.social avatar

    @ryanhoulihan I birthed my kiddo without one and I kinda feel like I got that wrong somehow. Your parents are human, and like all of us need at least a little reassurance that they did an adequate job (and I'm not sure why people are like this), particularly with the things they had no control over.

    janisf,
    @janisf@mstdn.social avatar

    @ryanhoulihan I articulated a very common human need from a trans-parent's point of view. I'm pretty sure I didn't offer a defense for anything they've done, and I'm genuinely sad/mad if they've been awful with you.

    Here’s a Pro Tip for anybody running ransomeware attacks: Stop wasting your time on hospitals and schools and penny-ante shit like that. Go after people like Musk, or Bezos, or Thiel. There’s hundreds of em worldwide. They’ve got all the money. They can afford to pay way better than the folks you’ve been fucking with. I dare you.

    They are well-bastioned. What we need to be doing is watching Leticia James very, very carefully. Trumps is just a badger, Theil is a mountain lion, and Musk is akin to a grizzly.

    Heard on a Reuters piece yesterday, "I don't think I'll vote for Biden since Roe v. Wade was rolled back under him."

    ADDED: Too much of the US population doesn't know how the system works. The conservative court system doesn't go away with an Executive administration change. Alito and Thomas rolled back Roe, and the sycophantic Trump appointees fell in line. (Roberts rightfully goes unmentioned.) Obegerfell could easily be next.

    @actuallyautistic

    janisf,
    @janisf@mstdn.social avatar

    @JeremyMallin @actuallyautistic Yes, it does seem that way, but from what I understand from my teen, most of it is only funny in specific context, usually something that was viral-ish very recently, about a month ago (because that's old, now), but not two weeks ago, because that's just dumb to bring up, in which case it might be funny again.

    They're comedically timed punchlines, and the funny part is the joke you had to be following via multiple platforms.

    @actuallyautistic Does anyone else feel that they're always the problem, in any given situation where a misunderstanding or disagreement has arisen? Whether it's something you've done/missed/forgotten or your reaction to something or to people's reactions to your mis-step? At the moment I feel like nothing but a problem and I've been conscious of the issue as long as I can remember. It could get quite depressing.

    janisf,
    @janisf@mstdn.social avatar

    @callunavulgaris @actuallyautistic I used to, and then I took a Vulcan? perspective. Whatever goes on in my presence, I'm some portion responsible. Just math indicates I could have done something differently, but I didn't necessarily have power over everyone there, either. I think it's a human tendency to see what's on your own plate. focus on what you think you could have changed, analyze your own auspices. The world, even just that event, was bigger than just you.

    @TheWarOnCars Right, but cars are a lot more safe today than they were twenty years ago. Gun deaths, however, have spiked from their numbers twenty years ago. Where metal hits metal is where we focus. The ban on assault weapons expired in 2006, and the numbers responded. We know what to do. We can be effective in promoting safety if the political spinning (by desperate politicians) stops.

    janisf,

    The Former Guy is out with a rant accusing networks like NBC and MSNBC of “country threatening treason.” And yet the media continues to act like he is some kind of normal candidate, and that there is an equivalence between his 91 criminal counts and 4 indictments and Biden’s age—which is just three years more than his own. It’s time for media to stop making this about a horse race and start making it about our democracy and our civil liberties. /1

    So what is it I'm doing wrong, then, when three friends of mine whose partners all tragically died are now all actively pursuing new relationships and I'm....still as single as I was before those tragedies?

    Okay, it's been a tough few years and I've had a LOT to process (not quite on the scale of losing a loved one, but still...), and for a large chunk of that I did take myself "off the market" but I'm kind of ready now I think (I hope) and...nothing?

    There's the lady at work I have the crush on that's a complete dead-end non-starter please god why this crush. And...that's it.

    STUDY
    How have these friends done it?

    1. It emerged via a social group she's involved with
    2. He bumped into her at a car boot sale. No, not literally.
    3. He has literally walked up to a woman in a shop and asked her out, and now has her number and is meeting her for coffee this week.

    The original intent of journalism in the US was to hold offices and officials accountable, to inform voters. It's was set up as an oppositional relationship. It's turned into a money machine. We literally pay to be in the fight.

    For those wondering, ′′how did i do it?":
    I boiled 10L of water, added 2 tablespoons of vinegar, 1 teaspoon of sodium bicarbonate, two cups of coke, and half cup of lemon juice, then stirred well. Waited 3 minutes, put the pan in the solution for 45 minutes, then added a quarter cup of chlorine bleach to the mixture. Then I brushed it with a firm toothbrush and put it back into the liquid for another 25 minutes. I took it out, rinsed it, and it looked exactly the same, so I threw it away, and went and bought a new one.

    Edit: Please don’t actually make this concoction! The resulting mixture may produce poisonous gases! This toot is a joke, the pictures are not even my pans. I didn’t throw any pans away. Following these directions, despite the fact it probably won’t do anything useful, would be fucking stupid and you may win a Darwin Award.
