@docpop when you say on Capp Street, do you mean you found it on the ground in a pile of trash? because that’s what I imagined immediately.

@sysop408 it was already pretty popular. I posted something in good faith and received quite a bit of real feedback. It was at 250k views at that point.

My friend in San Jose just sent me a message. I think maybe @ai6yr can help. Basically she just got home and there’s cops down the street and she’s really worried about violence in the neighborhood. But I don’t know a resource to find out what they’re doing.

knf100,
@knf100@sfba.social avatar

@ai6yr I don’t think I can find out for her now, but in the future, it would be nice if there was some kind of resource, I could just look at.

knf100,
@knf100@sfba.social avatar

@ai6yr I think she sees the neighborhood as normally safe to walk around in but when there’s cops walking around with guns and stuff, she thinks maybe there’s something to be concerned about.

Some things I saw in downtown San Francisco today:

  • an upcoming ‘bespoke AI nutrition’ cafe
  • a giant candy store called ‘It’s Sugar’
  • many Jehovah’s Witnesses and Falungong cultists
  • a VR game experience shop offering a Squid Game VR experience
  • bunch of ‘heart’ sculptures because of the song ‘I left my heart in San Francisco’
  • many tourists crowding into a cable car
  • more dogs than children, as is the norm

Truly the greatest hits of San Francisco

@knf100@sfba.social avatar

@skinnylatte I neither know what falun gong is nor do I care but it’s important that they be allowed to exist

Well, it looks like Elmo broke his Birdchan toy again. No posts load. None. No feed, no user timelines, no lists, no search... nothing.

Cone ants not blocking water feeder with sand challenge!

So far they have failed failed failed failed failed.

Three Hundred Tiny Failures.

They hate moisture. They cover it with sand. This makes most feeder designs ... ooze more moisture, they bring more sand... then the feeder is empty, ants have no water: a crisis. I've tried lecturing them, showing them educational films... but mostly NINE different feeder designs. they defeat them all.

The girls must have water. I must keep designing.

In 2017, astronomers detected the gravitational waves from colliding neutron stars for the first time: a kilonova. Enormous amounts of heavy metals were detected in the light from the explosion, and astronomers continued to watch the expanding debris cloud. Researchers have created a new simulation that recreates the merger, second by second, as it happened, giving insights into all the high-energy mayhem and heavy elements formation in the catastrophic event.

Foreset bedding consist of diagonal lenses (strata), usually clay, marking the former location & migration of a stream/river. The bottom always points to the direction of the channel migration. Here, the far right side shows normal bedding cut into by the stream margin.

This is so cool! The engineers at MIT discovered that cement and carbon black (paracrystalline carbon) can be mixed to create a supercapacitor that still behaves like cement. That means you can build cement structures that store energy. They estimate that 45 m³ of this material is enough to store 10 kWh (about a day’s worth of energy for a home).

the seat tube angle on this bike is so f'd it basically fits people who are 5'4" tall only 😞

Watch somebody come out with a mod that makes the rear rack into a bench seat. Also the class-action suit for over-the-bars crashes.
