    Leute müssen den Unterschied verstehen zwischen einer Verkehrswende und einer Antriebswende. Letzteres ändert nichts am Mobilitätsverhalten, ändert nichts an Teilhabe und ändert nichts an Sicherheit anderer Verkehrsteilnehmer*innen.

    Also, in den 14 Tagen seit dem 9. August bin ich mit 29 Zügen in 5 Ländern von über , zu gefahren. ~5400 km, mehr als die Hälfte der Züge (aber nicht Strecke) in D. Und kein Zug hatte mehr als 10min .

    I've discovered to composite figures. Soooo powerful. Use your favourite plotting software to output a , open this in Inkscape to access all vector elements individually and change layer ordering, line structure, fonts, transparency, colour, etc. And add e.g. a pixel image and combine all into something coherent.

    I still find it ... curious, but very on-brand that one of the prime and best studies stars with earth-sized is named , which comes from the telescope name that it was discovered with (Transiting Planets and Planetesimals Small Telescope), which of course is Belgian, since is a signature drink in .

    So we have exoplanets, named after a beer, named after an order of , named after a city in .

    Classic astronomers!

    Pleeeease keep us posted about the final product, the path to get there and the user experience during the meeting.

    We have a paper coming out tomorrow (in PNAS Nexus) on the CO2 emissions of all astronomy conferences in 2019. They're immense and not sustainable in the future and as a depedency for communication of the field.

    I finally put an animated observation from 2018 onto , where I observed the Moon one evening and then again the next morning. With a ~7000km baseline due to the Earth having rotated with me on it, the Moon appears under an angle differing by ~0.5°. That is "diurnal libration":

    I saw a total in 1999 in , Germany. It was an amazing experience, I still vividly remember the atmosphere, hundreds of people leaving the train station an hour before totality, anxious, because there were still lots of clouds. But a very I would say magical atmosphere. Something almost miraculous was about to happen, it was thorougly positive, and nothing in humanities power had any way to change it.

    And yes, I was lucky, clouds parted for totality. It rained 30min later

    Autonomes Fahren in Städten ist tot. Aus, vorbei. Das hat Apple erkannt, das hat Bosch erkannt, das hat vermutlich auch Tesla erkannt, darf es aber noch nicht laut sagen.

    Und ich bin froh darüber, weil klar war, dass das wenn dann nur mit massiven Einschränkungen (oder Gefährdungen) aller anderen Verkehrsteilnehmer*innen hätte funktionieren können.
