My first book (an unconventional memoir about rebuilding, connection to the land, the past and to oneself) should be out next year!

Some recent drystone work. A complete strip out and rebuild of this garden retaining wall which failed after only 30 years due to traced stone. All stone reused and we brought in some local fieldstone too.

Super sustainable, beautiful, lasts for generations. What's not to like?

A drystone wall with lots of differently shaped and sized stones that all fit together like a jigsaw.
A run down drystone wall in front of a house, there are stones lying on the ground around it and a red bucket full of stone too.
A close up shot of a ruined drystone wall. Some stones are missing and others and falling out of the wall.

So stones should be placed lengthways into the wall but most of these were placed with more length along the wall than in it. That's a traced stone.

@sbourne @Healthcarer Yep, it's not really drystone unless it's built to last. The longevity is part of the craft.

kristiedegaris,

@Healthcarer The wall was built incorrectly, not following the integral rules of drystone. Now it is built to last hundreds of years.

Trying not to engage with the world too much (I'm sure I don't have to explain why). The weather has shifted here in Scotland, and I felt my mood shift with it. Looking forward to warmer days and drystone and continuing to lead a carefully curated life.

Here's some beautiful dappled light in an ancient Pine forest.

Last Of The Summer Film I

I waited a few months to have these images developed and now I feel so wistful for summer.

@Gargron This was the 50mm pancake lens on the Nikon FM2 and fuji superia xtra!

@ev It is prohibitively expensive. Such a shame because I enjoy the process so so much.

@PhilipKing What a lovely comment to leave. Thank you. Very few better feelings than one of my photographs moving someone else.

Writing with the Swan Lake finale blaring in my headphones is a singular experience.

I think this is how it must have felt to write the really exciting parts of the Bible 😂

I got my Spotify wrapped recently and it was almost identical to 2022 (a year of lazy listening) and completely lacking some of my most favourite genres.

So, if you have the time, I'd love some suggestions of Classical music to listen to. Old, new, opera, just anything you enjoy. Playlists welcome too.

Thank you in advance.

@nathanlovestrees Thanks, pal! I was literally just admiring the oboe in Swan Lake. I played French Horn and Trombone for quite a few years, and I'm so sad I gave them up.

I've been so busy/overwhelmed by the state of the world. Hard to balance just getting on with life with the horrors and injustice I see everywhere. I'm sure so many of you are feeling the same thing.

So, here's an image that makes me feel very calm and peaceful. I hope it does the same for you.

@petecarr It helps to know others are feeling it, but it is brutal out there, struggling to be online. Hope you are doing OK, sending love x
